Not a good tweet by the M twitter account ... this is one of those, "Why the hell aren't you playing him MORE" reactions ... I know Penny tried to address this in his presser, but hopefully he starts deploying Minott more. We shall see manana.

I beg to differ. A perfect tweet at the perfect time. Maybe it will have the effect we all know is right for the team and the kid.

Btw, LQ and Nolley's production are impacted by who's on the floor w/them. I.e. w/Alo on the floor, LQ and Nolley will have an extra defender to contend with as Alo's man plays spy. How many cuts to the basket has Alo scored on? Hoe many backdoor cuts and slams has he made a la Minott when the defender isn't watching him on the preimeter?? Alo simply stands in one spot and watches as others are forced to score thru doubles. Earl, Josh and even Tyler will make you pay. As a pg, Alo needs to have a reliable jumper and floater in the lane yet he doesn't hence his negative OBPM contribution to the team....

CONFUSED_NEWS, I will keep it simple...

1) Do we beat Alabama without Williams and Duren?
2) Do we lose to Tulane with Williams and Duren?
3) Do we beat Wichita without Williams and Duren?

My 6 year old nephew answered all 3 correctly. It will be the challenge of a lifetime, but on your thinking cap and see what you can come up with. This is your chance to shine.

Yeah, but your nephew can copy/paste, so he's clearly ahead of the curve.

He is ahead of CONFUSED_NEWS and memtigbb. Memtigbb thinks we would have lost to Tulane with Williams and Duren. He thinks it is Lomax' fault that LQ went 1-6 with 1 assist and 3 turnovers..

Link where I think we would have lost to Tulane with Williams and Duren. Of course you cant, because like always when you start looking like an idiot you start lying.

Karen thinks we would have lost to Tulane, and now poor fella is name calling and triggered.

Play the players who produce on the court and the team wins, offense is smoother. Simple. Earl had +8.1 BPM while playing 30+ mins. He should've been the pg with the ball driving to win. He was unstoppable all game driving against Tulane. As Sheed would say, BPM analytics DON'T LIE. Facts

Memphis vs. Tulane Box Score, December 29, 2021 (Advanced analytics w/BPM)

Box Score +/- is a trash stat...It is just a formula that has no idea what happened in the game. You can be the best defender in the world...But if you don't post stats in the boxscore you will show as a bad player.

And if you are going to use BPM to slam Lomax...Shouldn't you be saying Junior deservers a ton more minutes...4th best BPM on the team. Far ahead of Earl, Q and Nolley.

So that's different from your often touted net rankings how? Don't you refer to that a lot? Serious question btw, not trying to be a smartass.

I don't think the Net rankings is the best measure of a teams worth...

But that is what is used by the committee with Q1 wins so yeah I quote it because it matters.

And another example of that stat being trash...

Look at the 2021 numbers of BPM...Alex Lomax 2nd on the team...Does anyone else believe Lomax was the 2nd best player on that team?

Did Lomax all of sudden become bad this year or is that stat not properly measuring his value.?

Seemed to measure Alo's defensive presence last season just fine. If it were indeed a trash stat, his seasonal DBPM stats would show little to no change instead of the big jump for last year so how do you explain that.

Btw, LQ and Nolley's production are impacted by who's on the floor w/them. I.e. w/Alo on the floor, LQ and Nolley will have an extra defender to contend with as Alo's man plays spy. As a pg, Alo needs to have a reliable jumper and floater in the lane yet he doesn't hence his negative OBPM contribution to the team....

So for the first piece...Steals and Defensive Rebounds and the other teams offensive efficiency. Everyones DPM is down based on our team being worse defensively.

And the second part of your post is the exact reason the stat is trash. It has no idea who played with whom...How well the team played while they were on the floor. All it knows is the stats you put up. That is why it is a trash stat...You actually illustrated it very well.

In 2021 was ALo the 2nd best player on the team...That stat says he was.

RE: Box Plus Minus (BPM) stats. Per players and per game
The bottom line is that for two years, we have played poorly in the beginning, and then very well after that. We have played very well with and without Lomax, there is no correlation whatsoever in how we perform with and without him. Our two best games were against Alabama and Wichita. LQ was 4-11 from the field, 0-7 from outside and had 3 assists and 7 turnovers.

People harp on stats and when the stats don't work out the way they want them to, they say that they don't matter. LQ was given the ball as our primary ballhandler and point guard, was 1-6 from the field 0-3 from outside, had 1 assist and 3 turnovers in a 1 point loss to Tulane. For the stats don't matter crowd, absolutely in this case. LQ couldn't get by anyone who was guarding him, held the ball too long, and put up awful shots that didn't fall.

Nobody is crapping on LQ and nobody is suggesting that we play better without him. The hate that Lomax gets is mind boggling. It's not about him at all. It is about Williams being in a good frame of mind and Duren becoming a beast.

Honestly,

Minott is a smart player...

I think the the second half he got a steal or a long rebound took 1 dribble jump stopped and found a guard to get the ball to...Yeah Minott is capable of bringing the ball up the floor but he also understands others are better at it. Contrast that with Malcolm in the first half dribbling through traffic up the sideline trying to initiate a fast break.

One thing Minott's game is not...It is not pretty...Not flashy...But when it comes down to it the most important thing is he is effective. Seems like the pretty guys have been getting the time.

I'll give it a shot, not sure why, but...

Hardly anyone is hating on Lomax. We didn't hate Jon Albright, or Ricky McCoy or Neon Leon, we just didn't want them to start and take better players minutes. I don't hate Lomax, but after watching him all these years, I think we'd be a better team if he got Leon Mitchell type minutes. He is not one of the 7 best players on this team.

RE: Box Plus Minus (BPM) stats. Per players and per game
The story on Minott according to coaches is he was the last to arrive and first to leave the gym. He was not engaged. They had a heart-to-heart recently with him and he's all-in. That gets you more opportunity.

People complain about Penny playing players undeservedly, are the same ones advocating playing a player who wasn't giving effort in practice. Maybe it's possible that anonymous board posters (and media, FWIW) don't know as much about the team as the staff does. And maybe it's possible the staff is doing exactly what Minott needs to develop as a player and man.

That isn't true. I've never seen so much hate thrown at a Tiger in all my 40 years as a fan.

Joe is the exact opposite in that he was not liked by the coach not the fans.
