The most impressive thing is that you would think that CLF knew all of this (sans maybe losing Denbrock) and he still decided to stick around. The easy way out would have been a mic drop and go out on top. But he didn't. He's sticking around for the rebuild. That's saying something about the guy. (Fingers crossed an NFL team doesn't come calling)

If Fickell left tomorrow, we'd still build a statue someday. His staying, may just be the difference between coaching a team to a phenomenal season and building a sustainable program. It appears now he is committed to do the latter.

Coaching stability has been the biggest barrier to UC's sustained success in football. Two root causes for previous coaches departing; conference affiliation (financial resources) and facilities, are both moving forward. Just being in the Big XII is a victory but I don't think CLF has any desire to be fat and happy occupying a space at the bottom of the conference standings like Rutgers or Vandy do.

We had zero problem with coaching stability during the Rick Minter era.

Coaching stability is usually a byproduct of mediocrity. Bad coaches get fired, good coaches get promoted to better jobs, and mediocre coaches stay on. Guys like Fickell, Gary Patterson, and Dabo are the exception in this profession.

RE: 2022 Bearcat Football
CINCINNATI — First-team All-MAC Miami Linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. is heading home to continue his college career. The former RedHawk announced on Twitter that he is now a Bearcat.

He posted 125 tackles this season which ranked second in the MAC along with one interception and four sacks. Pace is a highly-touted pass rusher who will instantly infuse the defense with talent as veterans exit the linebacker's room.

Fellow linebacker and brother Deshawn should pair nicely with the transfer on plenty of stops over the next few seasons.

Sounds like he is going to Georgia...apparently a ludicrous bag was dropped.

Good for Jerome. He proved you don’t have to play at a Bama to produce and be able to leave early. Hopefully more high talent starts to see UC for the gem it is.

Should we read anything into Ford naming Fickell, Paige, and Guidugli in thanks, but not Denbrock?

I am happy for Jerome too. Will miss him but think he is making the right decision financially.

Are you kidding me?

Minter was constantly running through assistants and coordinators. He had almost ZERO continuity on his staff.

(And remember, I like Minter...)

Yep. Truth be told, this is how it works. Assistant football coaches in CFB today are nomads-- particularly the position groups. The days of a Bud Foster staying at a school as an assistant for 20 years are over. Heck, even Saban is constantly replacing his assistants.

I'm excited to see Ethan Wright. Dude's a beast, and if not a RB would a great as a safety. He had a long TD run VS Temple that was awesome.

Yeah that was one of the more bizarre or at least uneducated comments I've seen around here. I suspect the constant coaching turnover during Minter's stint had a significant detrimental impact on player development and thus wins. It was a very big problem in my opinion.

Yeah I think we'll be open to a quality transfer (OSU's Miyan Williams would be swell to add if he enters the portal), but not desperate for one. I suspect a RB by committee situation but I agree than Wright will most likely get the most carries if he's healthy.

The wild card will be the status of McClelland. He didn't see much action toward the end of the season, which would make me question his health again. Maybe he would be better suited to going back to receiver or to the defensive side.
