It's gonna have to be a local kid who doesn't want OSU or ND. I think within 5 years we find one

Apparently Marcus is looking at Eliano

For DC? He already has a DB Coach...one that I think we'd all be happy coming back home again.

Yup, DC. Also looking at poaching Mason from Special Teams. Typical ND moves. Go to Cincy for what you need.

Sounds about right...now all we need is Day to jump to the Bears and we get the full Cincinnati experience.
Apparently, Harbaugh is on the Bears short list and he's a proven NFL HC.

Day's not going anywhere. He said as much two weeks ago...

Quote:Ryan Day rather definitively shot down rumors he could be interested in leaving Ohio State for the Chicago Bears.

“Yeah, I mean, I’d just tell you what I told the recruits if any of that ever came up,” Day said Wednesday. “There’s nothing to that. There’s no truth to it, and the second thing is I love Ohio State. And I love being the head coach at Ohio State.”

Jimmy took a big pay cut. Does Bears and CFP get him back the cut?

OSU/Bama/UGA/etc are better than most NFL jobs. Complete control of the locker room and roster. Ask urban what it's like when you can't boss these guys around and they make twice as much as you lol

With some of the money flying around now for the college gig it makes it harder to leave for an NFL job outside of the challenge or ego. Wouldn't be surprised in the least if Ohio St works a new deal for Day to essentially "lock him up." That Rose Bowl win with a lot of the starters out should help matters.

Again, if this were true you'd see NFL coaches frequently drop down a level to take jobs like that. They don't, and Urban is a perfect example why. Saban too. You can win as many games as you want at the college level but if you can't prove it in the pros your ceiling is the Semi Pro champion. Easier pill to swallow when you're making 10 mil. Probably not as easy when you see guys like Zac Taylor winning in the pros.

I feel like winning in college vs. winning in the pros is apples to oranges. Some guys can transcend, ala Pete Carroll, but it seems to be the exception.

If you got a good thing going wherever you are, you really need think twice about moving.

Exactly. Two different skill sets with some overlap but it's pretty rare to see major success at both levels. If Bama wasn't available Saban may have stuck it out longer but that was such an elite job. Not many nfl coaches get offered those for jobs because the really elite, successful NFL coaches aren't leaving the NFL and the elite college programs can get a guy more likely to be successful from the college ranks.

As much as I enjoyed the 13-0 run, that will not be my standard for an acceptable year. After all, I started with the Bearcats in the 1960's, suffered and wondered with them in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I was at some (not nearly all) of those games where we had to number less than a thousand by the 4th quarter. I have really enjoyed the rise of the last 20+ years.

Yes, I would love another undefeated season, but that is the wrong standard and almost certain to lead to disappointment. Watch the team, follow the team, cheer for the team, cheer for the band. And, yes, suffer a little bit with them.

My guess is that the 2022 Bearcats will be just fine. Thank you.

Bolded, good post and as a long-term fan and ticket holder I agree. We know it's unrealistic to expect undefeated seasons very often and that will certainly be the case in the Big XII. What I'm more curious about than the team are the "new fans" who jumped on the Bearcat bandwagon during this amazing season. Will they weather the storm of a couple of early losses next season, or be off buying jerseys for the next hot brand?

RE: 2022 Bearcat Football
Next season we will find out how good of a coach Luke is. Losing a good chunk of experienced players. All the players left will be HIS guys (ie Ridder). No more Freeman. No longer has an experienced O-coordinator to lean on. It'll be interesting.

The most impressive thing is that you would think that CLF knew all of this (sans maybe losing Denbrock) and he still decided to stick around. The easy way out would have been a mic drop and go out on top. But he didn't. He's sticking around for the rebuild. That's saying something about the guy. (Fingers crossed an NFL team doesn't come calling)

If Fickell left tomorrow, we'd still build a statue someday. His staying, may just be the difference between coaching a team to a phenomenal season and building a sustainable program. It appears now he is committed to do the latter.

Coaching stability has been the biggest barrier to UC's sustained success in football. Two root causes for previous coaches departing; conference affiliation (financial resources) and facilities, are both moving forward. Just being in the Big XII is a victory but I don't think CLF has any desire to be fat and happy occupying a space at the bottom of the conference standings like Rutgers or Vandy do.

If they bring in a QB to take over for Ridder, you're going to lose your 4* recruit and possibly his backup to the portal. I don't think Fickell would do that to his guys. Plus they just signed a highly rated QB this past offseason. At some point you've got to give these guys an opportunity to play.

I don't think that's anywhere close to a given.

OK. we'll see. If it were me and I had multiple offers from multiple P5 schools, I'd be gone before fall camp.

We’re going to need a new ST coach as Brian Mason is headed to Notre Dame.

If Prater is good let him beat the competition.

It depends on a lot. Does he trust himself to win the job? How much does he believe in the coaching staff to get him where he wants to go over his career? Etc.

Look at Mac Jones at Bama, sticking it out through Tua and then being ready to kill it. Hell, Burrow at OSU gave it a real shot, knowing he'd have to compete. Tried to earn that job and ended up transferring but only after embracing the competition and trying to win the job.

I don't think a lot of these guys are wired to be scared of some competition, particularly if they believe in the coaches. Ultimately, if it is clear he won't be the guy long term at QB he'll probably leave, but I am optimistic some additional competition isn't scaring off our QB room right now.

Agreed, there's no clear cut distinction. But as far as what they can prove on an individual level, it's asking if you want to compete at the highest level of your profession or not. That's just reality, so long as the question is "will Pete Carroll go to he Seahawks? Will Ryan Day go to the Bears? Will Brian Kelly go to the NFL" and not the other way around.
