Hurt feelings. Should be a capitol crime.

If Nichter and Angelis were on vacation (paid leave) for the Cotton Bowl, who led the band? Was it that pompous DR. TERREN L FRENZ?

I was not at the game but if the Docter was in charge did, they switch to playing Sousa, Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman?

I am not a big band fan but since we have to have one it should be good. My wife watches the band and says it is so much better and the music more up to date since the DOCTOR gave up his baton.

Unless we know the inside stuff, who really knows. Yeah, kids today aren't always used to having someone be tough on them. Or they could have been over the top berating members etc.

I don't mind if a coach is tough with my kids, but there is a line they should not cross. Unless you are connected with the band know one has a clue which one it is.

Kids, sure. College kids are adults by definition. It’s either a line crossed that you should be fired for or it’s one as a young adult you should learn to address on your own. You are likely going to have bad or tough bosses from time to time over the next 4 decades.

My guess is someone called their drone parent…the type my friend says email him as a university Econ professor to complain about the grade their son or daughter got. Said drone parent kicked the emotional hive and started an internal investigation.

Sidebar…can you ever imagine having your mom contact your college professor? Can you imagine doing it for one of your kids? Strange times we live in.

My parents were very much had the “free range” parenting style. When I called my dad in college and told him about it he would say “I guess you are going to have to figure it out”. Frankly, he said that in high school and junior high as well.

I have never met the assistant band director but I have met Christopher Nichter. He strikes me as far from a tyrannical figure.

I just spent some time in Florida where my brother is a college professor. Parents call all the time re: grades and workload and he says it's much worse when you have to take your turn in the barrel as department chair. They (mistakenly) assume that if they're writing the checks they are entitled to know everything that's going on with their kid.

Exactly what my friend says.

On the first day of class when he goes through the syllabus he tells the students you are adults, don’t have your parents call or email me about your grade or assignments. If they do, it will hurt your grade. I promise.

RE: Band Mystery? Bad Timing!
My father taught high school for over 30 years, and coached at one time or another football, basketball, baseball, cross country, and track.

Cross country and track were his main sports, coaching them for over 20 years each.

When he retired in 1991 he started training race horses that we took to the various county fairs in Ohio all summer long.

The sports writer from the local paper interviewed him a few years after he retired and asked him what the biggest differences were between coaching high school kids and training horses.

He said when you are training horses, they never talk back and their parents don't come to you to complain about how you are treating their kid!

I used to do this early in my career. But I've stopped because it's not really necessary.

I've been a college professor for nearly a decade now at three different schools, and I have not heard a peep from any of my students' parents. Not even from one student who went to my Church and who I caught cheating on an exam.

RE: Band Mystery? Bad Timing!
I would have never even vaguely considered calling a high school teacher or a college prof of my daughter.

If my daughter bitched about playing time on her soccer or softball teams in grade school, high school or college my only response was "I guess you need to get better or get used to it!"
