Perfect media “can’t be wrong” scenario. If they get destroyed, they didn’t deserve to be there and the chance of a non P5 ever getting there again are the chance of IKE sobering up and staying off the streets.

If they win, they were “P5 material all along” and that’s why they got an invite.

Hate cincy. Lots of history there - I was at a lot of FB and BB games where I detested that team.

If they were staying in our conference it would be hard not to root for them as much as it would pain me.

But this is a strange situation and I’m trying to look at various long term scenarios. If they get beat I doubt you’ll ever see a non P5 in CFB ever. Even if they win it may still go that way.

All things considered I think as a fan and alumnus of a non-P5 I have to root for them.

Think of it this way - if they weren’t cincy and they were some other non P5 would you root for them?

Agreed but pretend they are not cincy and another team from another conference and all other things are the same.

If it was a team that neither liked or disliked, like Boise St. for instance, I suppose I would be more interested in seeing them win. There is a lot of history between Memphis and Cincy. I felt the same way when UCF was trying to get in the "playoff." I had a hard time rooting for them as a rival.

My two favorite football teams are the Tigers and whoever is playing Alabama.

I get it. When you’ve been emotionally invested in a team over a long period of time and have seen first hand some of the battles - sometimes won, sometimes lost - you develop a feeling about an opponent .

The viability and history are one thing and the long term are another, especially in the age of agendas and social media.

“What’s good for the tigers” seems easy when they are playing someone that day or you are watching conference standings/divisions but these are strange times.

UTK manages to lose in some bizarre ways and I personally enjoy each and every one of them.

I'll be rooting for Cincy. Although they are leaving for the Big 12, they are opening the door for other G5's to crack the playoffs.

Not so long ago we beat them in back to back games
Remember not their fault the 12 passed on us and we would of hopped on that train in a second.
Also cincy was playing Ohio state and Notre dame, everybody knows IKE's feelings on playing a tough OOC schedule. BTW, they beat Notre dame.
