Yes they should be more upset at the playcalling at first and goal than anything

They were victimized. It's hard to say robbed because Purdue would have played for a TD instead of a FG and then Purdue could have gone for 2. Robbed no. Victimized? You bet!

I must admit I thought the Vol runner had scored. But after seeing the replay several times I have to change my mind. It's pretty remarkable how often officials get the close calls right in a split second without benefit of replay. They don't get enough credit from online denizens.

They were. It seemed Purdue had more white colonizers on their team. But the SEC is systemically oppressive. Purdue had a white RB Horvath handing out polio blankets in between runs.

Dunno. I saw arms of the refs waving before the ball was reached out. Once they wave the arms it's dead.
The Ref definitely raised his arms and stopped the play, they were robbed because he shouldn't have and it cost them the game.
When the ref makes the call it's dead. Always been the case.
Except in this year's game between Mississippi State and Memphis...

Yes, I know the TD wouldn't have won Tennessee the game. Purdue would have had their chance. But the call effectively lost the game for UT, and it was the wrong call.
And you throw on top of that a whopping 15 penalties compared to just 6 for Purdue and, sheesh.

Or if Tennessee's coach wasn't an idiot with his play calling at the end of regulation and in OT.
But let's blame the officials.

We have many who live in Disneyland around here, but the omnipresent inexplicable calls across the nation in this season had the sticky fingerprints of closing line spreads written all over them. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up this year when I heard Sankey refer to college football as an entertainment industry and college sports, with the assistance of some key networks, are more closely associated with gambling than ever before. I gave up the NFL in the 80's when 85% of the games were decided in the House's favor and buying college officials is easy because they really make peanuts compared to all other game day profits. And Quo, the huge tell was 2 years ago when oodles of veteran college officials left, or "retired" because they didn't want to be hassled by the gambling houses. The drive Tennessee made to tie it had frequent flags, some very late after the play, which massively inhibited their chances.
Pass defense was handsy all night on both sides but the inequities in just those calls was massive. Holding and Interference decide almost all NFL spreads. Just saying.

The ref clearly waved his hands, which is what was claimed about tonight's game.

I did not see the second half. Watched all of the first half. Both offenses looked strong. The Ds ... so-so at best.
Just returned home from a friend's condo in the heart of downtown Nashville. As I was walking through the gut of Lower Broadway ... a tremendous number of both Purdue and Tennessee fans. Welcome to all!
If you haven't visited the Ville, ... bring it. We would enjoy having you.

It's not either-or. You get flagged 15 times then are victimized by a quick stoppage on a critical play, and you have something to blame the refs for, regardless of mistakes you made.

UNC 1
Purdue 1
TN 0
From what I can tell (wasn't able to watch much of the game), TN had it's chances and should have played better especially on D, but the end was rough.
It may be a long time before TN takes another bid to the Music City. Bad things seem to happen.

In the game I watched, the refs let the play continue because they never called it dead.

RE: TransPerfect Music City Bowl: Tennessee vs Purdue
Just watched the end of the UT vs. Purdue game on YouTube. It seemed the forward progress of the UT ballcarrier laying on top of the Purdue player clearly was stopped for a sufficient bit of time before the UT man reached the ball over the line. Thus the play (as I understand the rule, and I could easily be wrong) was dead regardless of whether the official was tardy in blowing the whistle and/or waving the hands. There are "gray areas" in play stoppage and the officials simply ruled in favor of Purdue in this case.
In contrast, had the UT player "bounced off" the on-the-ground Purdue player and kept moving ... TD.
In other words (and again, as I understand the rule). If you have the ball and are horizontally on top of a grounded defender for a few seconds and you clearly can't move any more ... at that point, you simply can't extend your arm with the ball for a first down or a TD. Again, I could be wrong. Maybe somebody on the board knows the rule fully and can explain.
Now, to be fair, I can see how a Tennessee fan would be displeased — as the call was a tough one.

RE: TransPerfect Music City Bowl: Tennessee vs Purdue
everyone is focusing on the Tennessee non-TD, fine. But, don't forget this game Tennessee was essentially gifted 3 points from the "incomplete pass" in the 3rd quarter where, on the very next play, UT intercepted Purdue and got 3 points out of it.
That would have been a 1st down for Purdue, instead UTK got a field goal out of it and eventually went to OT.
