Covid strikes again
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – As a result of the combination of positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the Georgia State Men's Basketball program, Little Rock's Jan. 1 game against the Panthers at the Jack Stephens Center has been canceled consistent with Sun Belt Conference COVID-19 protocols.
The Georgia Southern game is still on. The new Sun Belt protocols seem to say, if I understand them correctly, that teams must play if they have 7 players and one coach available.
The GaSt game will apparently not be rescheduled. If they are really the top team in the league, that might be a "break". On the other hand, we are losing a home game, and generally we expect to win those.

I guess it's more than "apparently". "Per Sun Belt Conference policies, games unable to be played due to COVID-19 will be canceled and considered a no-contest and not rescheduled".

RE: Covid strikes again
The minimum of 7 players that requires a team to play includes walk-ons. A team can choose to play with less. A post on the ASU board stats that team with 4 Covid cancellations in ineligible for the league title. Since it is not mentioned, I assume they can play in the tournament so not sure how much it matters. GaSt's game with ASU is cancelled so that's 2 cancellations already.

RE: Covid strikes again
Both women's games this week are cancelled. This appears to be due to Covid in our program. Not playing the Saturday games may not be a bad thing. With the hogs playing a bowl game, at the same time, we probably could have counted the walk-ups on our fingers. Our die-hard season ticketholders would probably show up regardless, but that doesn't result in any extra revenue.

Looks like its 80 percent of whatever the league average is.
In other words, if Georgia State is the only one with an outbreak, they have a problem. If other teams start having outbreaks, Georgia State gets a reprieve.
The Panthers problem is extensive however. They have something like 5 scholarship players unvaccinated. Meaning a single covid case in the program takes out 5 or 6 players, not 1.
