Jeremiah Johnson is the new DC
Jeremiah Johnson is the new DC out of Northern Iowa. His bio says he has been with Northern Iowa the past 11 years.

I did a quick Points allowed per game over those 11 years. 22 PPG was the high and 15 was the low.

Thanks for the update, thanksjim. Better defense and special teams are a must.

UNI is a decent program and played in a very tough MVFC with the powerhouse North Dakota State and other tough Dakota schools as well as Youngstown State.

Curious question for the board, who on the Defensive Staff do you keep? I feel there could be 1-2 that they keep.

I was going to say defensive line but after looking at the stats I don't know if I would retain any of them. I know stats aren't the end all be all so if I was the coach, I would have a better understanding of their recruiting and day to day abilities. But since I am not on the in the room I have to go off stats.

508 points 36.29/ppg
6599 total yards 6.2 yards per play
3724 passing 7.65 yards per play
2875 rushing 5.0 yards per play
23 total sacks
17 QB hurries
95-200 3rd down 47.5%
21-35 4th down 60%

Well, there's no doubt they had among the very worst defenses in FBS. So, coaching changes are essential as is the recruitment of defensive players, including via the portal route.

Agree 100%. If teams don't get hit by transfer portal we will be facing some really good quarterbacks at WMY, CMU, OU, Miami and UB. WMU torched Nevada (however that team was far from full strength as their coach and a huge groups of starters left). I agree with prior comments that its no fun watching teams march up and down the field even if we do win the game. I remember going to a Ball State game we won - with several bombs to McKoy, however they ran all over us and I left Dix feeling like we had lost??

Normally a win is a win, but I have left games before, too, feeling more like we had lost. I'd like to see the stats on just how many punts there are in games in college and NFL compared to past years. It seems like the vast majority of possessions end with a score, a FG attempt, a turnover, or failure to make it on 4th down. Teams running plays on 4th down seems to be up, too. Heck, years ago teams would usually punt on 4th and a foot to go unless very deep in the opponent's territory.

anti-zip, when I saw the first post I was very tempted. But then I thought "too easy".

I do wonder, though, if he was a bullfrog. (rim shot)

Here is the breakdown of his years as DC. If we split the difference between his average stats versus this years defense it would increase the rankings ypg from 123 to 82, ppg 121 to 75, 3rd down 123 to 73, 4th down 91 to 70.

Kent 2021 472 ypg, 36 ppg, 47% 3rd down, 60% 4th down

2018

I thought for sure all 3 of our bodybag/payday games would’ve all skewered the season numbers. A&M lit us up for 595 yards and Maryland hit us for 526, but Iowa only got 418 out of us. 03-puke
