Bearcat Baseball 2022 Thread
Will get this one started as UC selected to finish third in the Preseason Conference Poll behind ECU and Tulane.

Bearcat OF Paul Komistek selected as Preseason Player of the Year. Komistek, Cole Harting and Garret Merritt selected on the All-Conference team. Komistek had 9HRs and 44 RBI's last season.

I've purchased a season pass the last two seasons and when the weather cooperates, it's a great way to spend a spring afternoon or early evening on campus. I only get to a few games but the pass supports a rising baseball program that will probably get even better recruiting to and competing in the Big XII, an outstanding conference for America's pastime.

Dick's Sporting Goods had that logo on long and short sleeved tees and maybe sweatshirts in both white and black. My guess is those may be gone but we'll see that logo more in the future based upon high demand.

I have both a long and short-sleeved t-shirt that my wife got through Dubois a couple years ago. These logos are not going away, a few months ago I posted something on twitter about former UC baseball player and donor Ike Misali* (he is now deceased) and one of the baseball ops guys said they are going to continue wearing the jersey's every year in his honor.

*Ike was the captain on the team with Sandy Koufax. The athletic department gives out an Ike Misali award to the player who has worked the hardest and has been the toughest.

Excited to learn that baseball will continue with those classic uniforms. Usually they roll those out for Sunday games and it's a great use of the 50's Bearcat logo on an off-white uniform made to look like the old wools. Those also featured a black cap with a block red "C" on it; UA had those at Dubois in the fall and my son picked one up. The hat is also a very classy look.

That same snarling Bearcat was appearing on some big screen graphics at Nippert this year which tells me they have plans to keep it in the mix. I'm not wild about the cartoonish Bearcat we've seen in recent years; keep it for kids' clothing maybe but most other historic depictions are preferable for adult wear.

RE: Bearcat Baseball 2022 Thread
CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Bearcats baseball team has released its 2022 schedule; set to begin on Friday, February 18. Fifth year head coach Scott Googins will lead the Bearcats through a 55 game slate featuring 25 home games, 25 road contests and five neutral site games.

The early non-conference schedule features four, four-game series at FGCU (2/18-2/20); at North Alabama (2/25-2/27) and two at home vs Northwestern (3/4-3/6); and vs Saint Joseph's (3/18-3/20).

In mid-March, the team will head to Greenville, S.C. to take part in Michigan State's annual First Pitch Invitational. The three-day contest will pit the Bearcats against Michigan State (3/11); Kansas (3/12); and Western Carolina (3/13) - all at Fluor Field, home of the Greenville Drive (MiLB affiliate of the Boston Red Sox).

UC's crosstown rivalry with Xavier will be renewed in late March as the schools play a series of games in Clifton (3/25); Prasco Park in Mason, OH (3/26); and Norwood (3/27).

The 2022 schedule also includes the return of the Joe Nuxhall Classic, an annual tournament which honors the legacy of the legendary Reds player and announcer. This year the Bearcats are set to host Xavier (3/29) and will travel to Oxford to face the winner of Wright State/Miami OH (4/5).

To round out the non-conference slate, Cincinnati will host three midweek games against regional rivals; Indiana (4/21); Wright State (5/3); and NKU (5/11). The 'Cats will also hit the road for games against Indiana (3/8); Wofford (3/15); Louisville (4/12); and Ohio State (5/17).

As the American Athletic Conference returns to three-game series, Cincinnati will host conference foes East Carolina (4/1-4/3); Houston (4/8-4/10); South Florida (4/22-4/24); and Memphis (5/13-5/15) at UC Baseball Stadium. The AAC road slate will include Wichita State (4/14-4/16); East Carolina (4/29-5/1); Tulane (5/6-5/8); and UCF (5/19-5/21).

The American Athletic Conference Tournament will return to Clearwater, FL (May 24-29) as the Bearcats look to make a post-season run at BayCare Ballpark, spring training home of the Philadelphia Phillies. Cincinnati won the event in 2019.

Paul Komistek And The Offense Look To Lead The Bearcats In 2022

Although there will be some new faces in the lineup for the University of Cincinnati baseball team this season, the Bearcats will still bring back a few key bats in 2022; maybe none more important than redshirt junior outfielder Paul Komistek.

Komistek is back for his third season at UC and the expectations have never been higher for the slugger from Knoxville, Tenn. After earning First Team All-AAC honors in 2021, he was named the 2022 AAC Preseason Player of the Year earlier this month, showing that his performance was recognized around the conference.

The recognition was well-earned, as his .364 batting average, .599 slugging percentage and .459 on-base percentage from last season were the highest among all returning players in the conference this season.

"It's pretty cool to see all the hard work pay off a little bit and start to reap some benefits from that," said Komistek.

The outfielder was one of five Bearcats named to the All-AAC teams in 2021, but only he and redshirt junior Griffin Merritt (second team) will be returning for UC this year out of that group.

That leaves some holes to fill in the lineup for the Bearcats, but Komistek is looking forward to the challenge and thinks the team has the players to step up.

The season starts on Feb 18 at Florida Gulf Coast

Congratulations to Komiskek and the other baseball Bearcats on the all-AAC selections and preseason pick to finish third in a very tough conference.

Sixteen days until Bearcat baseball begins? Seems crazy looking at our forecast this week but it's a sure sign that the "boys of spring" will soon take the field. Who knows if MLB will work out its woes so UC may be the only game in town next month.

What Bearcat team members departed and did they transfer or decide to go pro or leave school entirely? AAC is a good baseball conference. Would like to see the Bearcats more consistently at the upper tier of the conference but that may be difficult with so many southern schools that benefit from better year-round weather conditions and likely a better pool of nearby talent.

I think I read it's the first opening game win in four years? They've started well and winning an opening series on the road would bode well for this season too. This should be a very good season.

13-9 UC in the 7th.

UC pitchers have thrown 190 pitches through 6 2/3 innings.

We might be a bit of a softball squad this year.

Bottom of 9th with a 5 run lead and UC’s pitcher is struggling. Walk, walk HBP, Single, strike out, strike out, walk, walk.

Now 14-12, 2 outs and go ahead run is on base. Egads.

Blew a 5 run lead in the 9th with only 2 hits. This pitching staff is a little rough.

Bottom of 10th 14-14.
