CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Bearcats baseball team has released its 2022 schedule; set to begin on Friday, February 18. Fifth year head coach Scott Googins will lead the Bearcats through a 55 game slate featuring 25 home games, 25 road contests and five neutral site games.
The early non-conference schedule features four, four-game series at FGCU (2/18-2/20); at North Alabama (2/25-2/27) and two at home vs Northwestern (3/4-3/6); and vs Saint Joseph's (3/18-3/20).
In mid-March, the team will head to Greenville, S.C. to take part in Michigan State's annual First Pitch Invitational. The three-day contest will pit the Bearcats against Michigan State (3/11); Kansas (3/12); and Western Carolina (3/13) - all at Fluor Field, home of the Greenville Drive (MiLB affiliate of the Boston Red Sox).
UC's crosstown rivalry with Xavier will be renewed in late March as the schools play a series of games in Clifton (3/25); Prasco Park in Mason, OH (3/26); and Norwood (3/27).
The 2022 schedule also includes the return of the Joe Nuxhall Classic, an annual tournament which honors the legacy of the legendary Reds player and announcer. This year the Bearcats are set to host Xavier (3/29) and will travel to Oxford to face the winner of Wright State/Miami OH (4/5).
To round out the non-conference slate, Cincinnati will host three midweek games against regional rivals; Indiana (4/21); Wright State (5/3); and NKU (5/11). The 'Cats will also hit the road for games against Indiana (3/8); Wofford (3/15); Louisville (4/12); and Ohio State (5/17).
As the American Athletic Conference returns to three-game series, Cincinnati will host conference foes East Carolina (4/1-4/3); Houston (4/8-4/10); South Florida (4/22-4/24); and Memphis (5/13-5/15) at UC Baseball Stadium. The AAC road slate will include Wichita State (4/14-4/16); East Carolina (4/29-5/1); Tulane (5/6-5/8); and UCF (5/19-5/21).
The American Athletic Conference Tournament will return to Clearwater, FL (May 24-29) as the Bearcats look to make a post-season run at BayCare Ballpark, spring training home of the Philadelphia Phillies. Cincinnati won the event in 2019.
