MD and VT were in the same conference from 1916 to 1950 when MD had VT tossed out over the 1951 Bowl Ban. MD with the help of Clemson and Duke specifically formed the ACC to specifically kick out VT and West Va because they voted for the ban. They then worked with UVa to keep VT out of the ACC from 1954 until the early 2000's.

Eh, Maryland and VT parted conference ways in 1950. IMO, that is far enough back to not be worth mentioning in the current context.

But if VT fans bear a grudge over those years, then awesome, as it adds to the spiciness of the game.
