I imagine it’ll end up being a 15ish story tower there with 5 or 6 floors of parking, 7 or 8 floors of hotel, and 2 or 3 floors of retail and office space. Mixed use is the way of the future, and I foresee with such limited space they’ll be stacking

Even with a sellout, those clubs seats across the field from section 125 were less than 50% capacity.

I know some of us question our OC at times but the Houston OC must have been high with some of the play calling he did in the second half. If they would have lost, he would have had to catch the greyhound back to Houston because some of that play calling was just plain terrible.

Wi-fi. Was nonexistent per all my friends who went to the game. Is there going to be a questionnaire about things that need to be addressed before next season?

The true fix is to get the cell phone companies to improve capacity. Wifi at a stadium like that is a bad idea

Too close to the approach lane for the airport to build a 15 story tower.

No it's not. The old SS building on the northside of the BJCC is essentially a 15 story tower including the parking it is built on top of...and it is more directly in the glide path than the current green lot which is significantly south of the glide path.

It's not stories its lineal feet. May not be an issue but it would have to be approved by the FAA. The ILS approach for 06 (it's actually 058 degrees not 060) is roughly 2,121 AGL somewhere near I-65 but it is on 3.00 degrees slope as you get closer to the end of the glide slope which is 1,018' from the end of the numbers and roughly 604' AGL. Not sure what AGL is over the green lot. I'll look next time on the Garmin.

RE: Birmingham Bowl - Protective Stadium SOLDOUT!
I attended the game yesterday with my daughter, son, and grandson. I love Protective Stadium and was anxious for them to see it. Here are some of my biased observations, and no we didn’t get wet.

Once we got off I-20 E at 17th St. N., nothing was moving. Nothing! A bus in the wrong lane was trying to turn left onto Abraham Woods Jr Blvd. This was one hour before kickoff. In my frustration my daughter routed me around the traffic jam, and we parked along the side of 17th near the FBI building, and walked to the stadium. No charge! It was a pleasant walk.

We entered the stadium at the northwest corner, and only had a short wait to get in. It was probably 30 minutes before kickoff at this time, and the concession area at the northwest corner was already jammed packed of people. We made our way to the lower part of section 133, adjacent to the Auburn band. You could only talk when the band wasn’t playing. Haha!

At halftime we ventured out of our seats only to realize there was no way we were walking through the concourse on the east side of the stadium. The lines at the concession stands and restrooms were enormous. We went back to the safety of section 133. During the 3rd quarter my daughter and grandson ventured out to get food.

When exiting after the game, the ramps at the south end of the stadium were a zoo. There was plenty of room to exit at the north end.

Regarding the game, the Houston QB had all the time in the world to eat a sandwich in the pocket waiting to find an open receiver. It was ridiculous!

Now for a little controversy, that actually upset me. A DB for Auburn, Smoke Monday, is known for targeting. Apparently he has been called for targeting several times this season. Apparently. He was called for targeting yesterday, but the call was overturned. I agreed. It wasn’t targeting, but it was close. In the second half he was called for targeting again and ejected from the game. This was intentional targeting and is what the rule is trying to prevent. There are many bad calls, in my opinion, where the ball carrier ducks his head and the defender hits helmet to helmet. I hate that call. But this was intentional targeting by Smoke Monday. He was ejected.

However, the ejected player can now stay on the sideline. So here is this guy, who just rammed his helmet into the Houston receiver’s helmet, leading cheers for the Auburn crowd and the crowd is loving it. I was pissed! I felt Monday should have been physically removed from the stadium.

We had a great time and on the way out I showed my family my season ticket seats in section 126.

I also went and had a pretty similar experience. Got stuck in traffic in front of the Alabama Power building, but noticed one street spot that I was able to snag. Walking to and from the stadium wasn't a problem, and after the game I was able to maneuver out of downtown pretty quickly.

First time of my 6 visits to Protective that I haven't grabbed a drink and pretzel, like you said it was just too crazy.

As for the Smoke thing. Obviously the correct call, I can't believe people even tried to argue with it. I personally didn't mind him being on the sideline because it was his last game for going pro. Kid very easily could have just sat the game out like so many others do these days.

One of my friends works for the company who did the electric work for the stadium. He told me this lot will eventually be “Phase 2” of Uptown for more restaurants, bars, etc. My season ticket renewal application still offers me Green Tailgating for next year so at least one more season!

My issue is that the green lot is currently as close as it gets to handicapped parking(for those of us with east side seats) and you aren’t really allowed to drive around the stadium for drop off besides the north side. I’ve been dropping Granpa off at the northeast gate because there are no shuttles from parking lots to the stadium like they’ve got in Hattiesburg.

There’s a long ramp in the middle of the east side of the stadium and it’s unnecessarily employee only.

As far as restaurants, I’d rather have franchise restaurants down there. The local ones are getting ghosted.
