RE: Delaware - GAME 10 - CAA GAME 1
Well, for now, our game with Delaware is still on Wednesday night.

We are currently # 278 in the RPI and # 279 in the NET rankings. Delaware enters this contest with an 8-0 record (I.E. all of their D-I wins; they're 8-4) against teams that are outside the top-200 of either or both of the RPI/NET rankings, with an average margin of victory of 9.9 points in those contests. 2 of those wins were road contests while 2 others took place on a neutral floor.

Last time out (Dec 21), Delaware lost 83-72 against an Iona team that is 10-2 against D-I foes and looks like a team that should be in the NCAA Tournament this year.

Projected starters for Delaware:

* PG Jameer Nelson, Jr. (6-1 Jr.): 13.8 ppg, 2.3 apg, 5.4 rpg, 1.3 spg, .356 3-pt %
* SG Ryan Allen (6-2 Sr.): 13.4 ppg, 1.6 apg, 2.2 rpg, 0.9 spg, .414 3-pt %
* G Kevin Anderson (6-5 Sr.): 11.8 ppg, 2.8 apg, 3.8 rpg, 0.9 spg, .844 FT %
* PF Andrew Carr (6-9 So.): 9.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 0.9 bpg, 1.1 apg, .870 FT %
* C Dylan Painter (6-10 Gr.): 14.1 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 0.8 bpg, 1.8 apg, .813 FT %

Key Bench players:

* G Ebby Asamoah (6-4 Jr.): 5.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, .833 FT %, 18.1 mpg
* F Jyare Davis (6-7 r-Fr.): 5.5 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 0.7 apg, 14.5 mpg
* G Gianmarco Arletti (6-6 so.): 4.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.1 spg, 14.3 mpg
* G Wes Peterson (6-6 Fr.): 1.7 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 0.8 apg, 11.2 mpg

Note that Allen missed Delaware's last game against Iona due to a team-imposed suspension. If he remains out on Wednesday night, expect defensive specialist Arletti to replace him in the starting lineup. Davis also missed their last contest with an injury, leaving the Blue Hens light on frontcourt depth.

The big thing that jumps out to me is how well Delaware shoots free throws (.786 as a team), especially their starting big men. Painter and Carr have combined to knock down 72 of 87 FT's (.828). With our size disadvantage, they'll probably just pound the ball in the paint at will and either get easy dunks/layups or automatic points at the stripe.

And yes, that is the son of former St. Joe's Hawk and NBA player Jameer Nelson Sr. playing for Delaware. Junior transferred from George Washington last year, presumably to be closer to his dad (Sr., age 39, is the Assistant GM for the G-League team in Delaware) and has 3 years of eligibility remaining with the Blue Hens.

Hens have 3 5th year starters so it will be tough (including Allen).

Hawks split last year with them but did get out rebounded in both tilts. Hawks have rebounded better in the past 2 games so they will definitely need to keep that improving trend in this game.

Delaware has two giants in the paint. Rebounding is going to be quite tough in this game. So will driving the ball, so I’m willing to bet we see some regression from the last game and we jack a bunch of threes.

This one has potential to get real ugly for us, real fast.

Stats suggest that the Hens are about a plus 2 on glass while Hawks are a minus 0.5. Painter averages 7.5 and Carr a little under 5 per game. Sims is at 6.5 with White and Baker over 5 per. Hawks stats likely a little inflated.

Hawks will have an overall speed advantage (Nelson is quite quite quick however from what I saw)with Hens having size advantage. Yep, will be tough but I believe that the Hawks will compete well win or lose.

RE: Delaware - GAME 10 - CAA GAME 1
This is going to be the matchup of a classic center and PF lineup vs. a four guard type lineup. We will throw a 6'6" pg and two good sized off guards at the two and three along with a 6'6" and 6'7" pair of quick "big men". Which style wins?

My prediction is that we start off well and get a lead as they attempt to defend us man to man. Then they adjust and go zone, walk us down and then it will be a to the wire finish. I don't think Delaware has the defense or dominant guards to manhandle us like Jacksonville did(who, btw, was the only team to thump us). Painter is strong in the paint but he isn't an intimidating defender. If they play man we're going to have opportunities to drive from the top and get to the bucket for the finish, foul or kickout.

We also don't have to save our legs for a follow up game and should be well rested. Time to crank up the pressure and see what we can do when we turn the screws full bore.

Defend our house!

You don’t think they have the “dominant guards”? The have a transfer in Nelson who’s been nothing short of very good, as well as Allen who can be more than. A handful to deal with. They are the very definition of a well balanced team that present problems all over the floor

Yep, Nelson just went for 29 (going by memory so may be off on that) the game Allen missed due to a team violation.

They are very experienced and talented for sure. Should be a fun game to watch.

79 degree weather in December tends to soften opponents up, we shall see. Seen many opponents flee the cold of the north and enjoy the warmth and beauty of our beaches that they play like they are on vacation.

The line has moved to 4.5. Gamblers like the Blue Hens in this one. They are very talented and experienced so I can see why they would bet on them.

RE: Delaware - GAME 10 - CAA GAME 1
Delaware by 10+, sad to say.

I'd love to see us competitive in this one, but I don't think it's going to happen. I have a feeling we are going to revert to taking a lot of ill-advised threes to avoid their interior size, and we've proved we are not an efficient shooting team.

RE: Delaware - GAME 10 - CAA GAME 1
Only way I see us winning this one is excelling in the press and/or using a lot of zone D. We don’t have one big man capable of handling their twin towers effectively on D, let alone 2.

Delaware isn’t a good 3-pt shooting team, especially if Ryan Allen is still suspended, so zone is the best way to combat them.

Nelson is a stud, and on both ends of the court. He’s going to be a pest tonight.

I will say this: A win tonight would be the biggest and most important in the Siddle era to date. We should not take that lightly should we pull off the upset tonight. A W will require Siddle out-coaching his opponent.

And that part, I don’t have confidence in based on what I’ve seen to date. However I’d love to be eating crow later tonight/ tomorrow. Was hoping to get there tonight given i have to come to Wilm anyways, but just no way to swing getting outta Raleigh in time sadly.

Agree, if he beats Delaware tonight he's absolutely getting this program in the right direction. Hopeful that's the case.

Sucks ot start CAA play with a home game and no fans. Not getting the boost we would normally.

Looks like Ryan Allen might still be suspended for Delaware. Per their game notes they have Arletti as a projected starter again.

That’s big.
