RE: Delaware - GAME 10 - CAA GAME 1
Well, for now, our game with Delaware is still on Wednesday night.
We are currently # 278 in the RPI and # 279 in the NET rankings. Delaware enters this contest with an 8-0 record (I.E. all of their D-I wins; they're 8-4) against teams that are outside the top-200 of either or both of the RPI/NET rankings, with an average margin of victory of 9.9 points in those contests. 2 of those wins were road contests while 2 others took place on a neutral floor.
Last time out (Dec 21), Delaware lost 83-72 against an Iona team that is 10-2 against D-I foes and looks like a team that should be in the NCAA Tournament this year.
Projected starters for Delaware:
* PG Jameer Nelson, Jr. (6-1 Jr.): 13.8 ppg, 2.3 apg, 5.4 rpg, 1.3 spg, .356 3-pt %
* SG Ryan Allen (6-2 Sr.): 13.4 ppg, 1.6 apg, 2.2 rpg, 0.9 spg, .414 3-pt %
* G Kevin Anderson (6-5 Sr.): 11.8 ppg, 2.8 apg, 3.8 rpg, 0.9 spg, .844 FT %
* PF Andrew Carr (6-9 So.): 9.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 0.9 bpg, 1.1 apg, .870 FT %
* C Dylan Painter (6-10 Gr.): 14.1 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 0.8 bpg, 1.8 apg, .813 FT %
Key Bench players:
* G Ebby Asamoah (6-4 Jr.): 5.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, .833 FT %, 18.1 mpg
* F Jyare Davis (6-7 r-Fr.): 5.5 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 0.7 apg, 14.5 mpg
* G Gianmarco Arletti (6-6 so.): 4.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.1 spg, 14.3 mpg
* G Wes Peterson (6-6 Fr.): 1.7 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 0.8 apg, 11.2 mpg
Note that Allen missed Delaware's last game against Iona due to a team-imposed suspension. If he remains out on Wednesday night, expect defensive specialist Arletti to replace him in the starting lineup. Davis also missed their last contest with an injury, leaving the Blue Hens light on frontcourt depth.
The big thing that jumps out to me is how well Delaware shoots free throws (.786 as a team), especially their starting big men. Painter and Carr have combined to knock down 72 of 87 FT's (.828). With our size disadvantage, they'll probably just pound the ball in the paint at will and either get easy dunks/layups or automatic points at the stripe.
And yes, that is the son of former St. Joe's Hawk and NBA player Jameer Nelson Sr. playing for Delaware. Junior transferred from George Washington last year, presumably to be closer to his dad (Sr., age 39, is the Assistant GM for the G-League team in Delaware) and has 3 years of eligibility remaining with the Blue Hens.
