First time this year seeing the team live. I have had season tickets for years but, with the kids grown, did not renew this year. C of C was very physical and killed us on the offensive glass. I think they had 21 offensive rebounds. Our lack of size really showed tonight. Also, I believe we made 22 more free throws and still lost. I will go to a few more games this year. However, I think it is time to go in another direction.

This is exactly what has happened. It is so sad to see what it has become. I have stood by Jeff and even blamed his assistants for the lack of success. I think the guy is a great basketball mind, but it is time for him to step aside, or be removed as the coach of this program. What is going to happen to us in conference play is going to be horrific. Those that don't agree, you are killing us all...please open your eyes!!!

The fans got into it, nice comeback. But this team doesn't finish games. Never have I seen an ODU team get manhandled on the glass like that. Especially by a team picked 7 in the CAA. CUSA teams will tear us up, we're weak as wet toast.

I have loved ODU basketball since attending in the mid 1980's. I had season tickets for several years but opted out this year. Tonight was my first time attending this year and I only attended tonight because it was my son's birthday. I find myself not even checking the schedule to see when the next game is. As I looked around the arena tonight, I thought back to those days when we were beating VT and Depaul by huge margins. I have always thought Jeff was a good coach. However, I think he has struggled to adjust to how much the game has changed. I am hoping he will retire after the end of the season

Lot of defeatist. Such a spineless, weak group. I believe this team will be rolling in March.

WKU is the class of CUSA the way I see it right now. Let's not forget we will likely have to win 4 straight at the tournament which will not happen. So....unless a miracle happens and the shooting gods find us a long hot streak, this season is rapidly fading. Losing brings on more losing and bad teams find ways to lose games. C of C has a DNA like all of BT's teams had. What is this teams DNA ? We are not exceptional at ANYTHING and mediocre at best at most things. That is not a good characteristic.

Excellent question. My answer: tentativeness. Although a small team, our players are elite athletes. The only one of our top eight that is truly struggling right now is AJ.

Yet we still play like crap. Why? Because, in my mind, Coach Jones has managed to completely hobble our guys. We’re like the gifted hunting dog who has been hit so much that he is now afraid to act on his instincts.

Coach Jones has had his chance to deliver a winning product. He has failed. I will still be attending all the home games and cheering on the team. But it is time to go in another direction.

B.t.w., I enjoyed saying hello last night to DaBigBlue. We grizzled old coots need to stick together.

Same here. I took my kids to drive around and look at Christmas lights and 94.1 happened to be on so I missed the first 10 minutes and caught the rest on the radio. Else I wouldn’t have even seen the score until now.

I agree with the rest of the post but the bottom half of our conference is so horrific I bet we still post a better than .500 record in conference play. I just hope those with enough money to burn ensure we hire an in demand coach this time because if we go budget again we might as well just stick with JJ. While the program has become a wounded caribou, at least we get what we pay for. It could be a lot worse with the money we’re spending.

AJ saw double the minutes that Stines saw last night. Stines misses one shot and can't get back in the game. I don't even know what to say anymore.

To summarize, we are 5-8 against a non-conference schedule that likely includes zero NCAA Tournament Teams.

I am so tired of one of these kids missing a shot and immediately being pulled. How the heck are they supposed to learn it’s ok to make mistakes and do it differently the next time down? Half the time it’s not even a mistake, it’s just a shot that didn’t fall and here comes Jones off his can to bark at the bench and replace them. Pathetic coaching style for this generation. I do hate pilling on AJ. I love his dementor and seems to stay positive this year, but what's going on. The past two seasons, he avg over 10.5pts/gm, while shooting 31.4% from behind the arc. This season he's struggling at 2.8 pts/gm and shooting just 17% from 3. I know he had some issues with the wheels. He's 6-5 one of our taller guards, but he isn't a strong player. Last night we needed rebounds and AJ didn't have a single one. '19-'20 season he was averaging 5 rebounds, this year 2. Seeing him on the floor last night, he doesn't seem to have his mojo. I just think he should come off the bench for a few games and start Charles Smith IV or Trice. If we continue to start 4 guards with Kalu, they need to be able to help in the post. We got out rebounded by CofC 32 to 46, for a team as offensively challenged as ODU, that can't happen. I know JJ said CofC was a good team, but really they are just 'pretty good' at best. They played with more hustle and desire. We kept it close by going to the line.

There is currently only 2 teams in CUSA with a losing record. USM and ODU. I don’t know who are conference mates are playing, but at least they are winning.
