Quote:In documents obtained via FOIA request by one of our readers, Tech Hockey Guide was able to review, it is clear that Mel Pearson was behind the decision to cancel the game vs Western Michigan and did not want to play Michigan Tech either. Ultimately the official decision was relayed by Josh Richelew, Sport Administrator at the University of Michigan.
The power of the people, taking full advantage of FOIA request to get to the bottom of this.
Man, Mel Person looks real bad, especially after the public statements he made. Can't wait to read a CHN follow up story on this....

Quote:Emails released via the Freedom of Information Act show Michigan coach Mel Pearson to be the impetus behind canceling the Dec. 30 Great Lakes Invitational game against Western Michigan, contrary to public statements. The emails also show that he wanted to cancel the Dec. 29 game against Michigan Tech as well, and that he raised concerns as far back as the summer about scheduling the games in the first place.
It's not clear from the emails why the Dec. 29 game went ahead as scheduled.
Publicly, Michigan said that the decision was made solely by medical personnel. Technically, that may be true. According to the emails, Pearson was writing to other members of the athletic department urging them to cancel the games. That is ultimately what happened.
This is the same school which used a second covid excuse in football in 2020 to not show up for Ohio state. They would have gotten rolled and would have likely gotten Harbaugh fired or forced to leave. Game dodged, job saved, and now he’s a hero in 2021.

COVID is a completely different matter than what the hockey team did. That's what pisses me off even more about this GLI game. In a world where teams legitimately had to cancel games because of COVID, Michigan used it as an opportunity to cancel a game for non-COVID reasons with vague wording that anyone would assume was COVID during these times.

Both of our large public Universities are a disgrace to our great State. Combining to pay over 1 billion for covering up sexual predators in the last several years. They should both have State funding cut to zero.
