That is an excellent article.

I hope that this bowl victory spills over into a boost in attendance next year.

I’m looking forward to next season already.

UAB has beaten 4 ranked teams as I was corrected on this a couple of weeks ago. The writer missed UAB's 34-31 victory over 20th ranked USM on Nov 17th, 2011. Otherwise, it's a pretty good read.

Sure hope so! Would also be nice to have our yearly FCS game be against JSU, Alabama A&M, or Alabama State at HOME. Heck, Samford and make it a cross town event. Don’t want a Central Arkansas or neutral site next year. I imagine if we had played JSU at home, we would have had another 35k-40k game this season to help the attendance #s

The SWAC influence on attendance final attendance average cannot be overstated especially if our first home game rotates between ASU and A&M. They both have huge alumni base in the metro.

The neutral site against JSU this year was because the construction was not going to be completed in time. That game was originally scheduled to be at Protective.

I think UAB BB is waiting on a P5/big time victory to take off, too.

I thought they beat North Carolina awhile ago. Or you mean for Coach Kennedy

I mean overall, UAB basketball has a winning or very close record with the entire SEC. 3-3 against Kentucky. 1-0 against Bama. Like 11-12 (maybe??) vs Auburn.

Michigan State 2-0
Baylor 1-1
Clemson 2-1
DePaul 15-19
Georgia Tech 1-0
Iowa State 2-1
Indiana 1-3
Mississippi State 4-3
NC State 1-0
OK State 1-1
Penn State 1-0
Rutgers 1-1
Texas A&M 1-0
Texas Tech 1-0
Arizona 1-1
Arkansas 2-2
Cal 1-0
UConn 1-0
Florida 1-3
Georgia 1-3
Illinois 1-1
Kansas 1-3
Michigan 1-2
Minnesota 2-3
Ole Miss 1-4
Missouri 2-1
Nebraska 3-2
UNC 1-4
Oklahoma 1-2
Oregon 1-1
Pitt 2-0
USC 1-3
Tennessee 2-2
UVA 1-1
Vandy 1-4
Washington State 1-1
WVU 2-2

I think it is safe to say UAB has had plenty of “power 6” (inc. Big East) wins in basketball over the years. Beating a “power conference” opponent in Basketball doesn’t mean near as much in basketball as it does football. I’d rather us beat San Francisco, SLU, A10, MVC, AAC teams that are QUALITY wins over some crappy team in the B1G or SEC just because they’re in the B1G or SEC

It means a lot more now than it used to because of the changes to college sports. It’s a different world than when Gene Bartow was scheduling and winning games.

We played Duke at least once. We were there when UAB lost in Duke's arena a few years ago.
