If I'm Saban I retire right before NIL sends this into a full fledged free agency of every player on every team at every level (including HS JR/SR). CFB may run full speed into the same brick wall Formula-1 ran into when they let the biggest checks win.

Think the original Roller Ball. Corporations want personalities, not heroes or legends who can rally people against them. Super coaches, super programs, and super players must be mitigated and must be flawed so they can be manipulated.

Gambling, the assault on morals and decency, and constant surveillance, and turnover for more cash which makes all look mercenary are the tools building personalities whose flaws keep them from becoming icons. And it is our icons and history which have been under assault and not by accident. Without them there is no moral precedent and no rallying point.
