There was a time where taking Miami’s best player as a transfer to possibly be a backup would warrant a trip to their board to poke the bear. Not sure if it even exists anymore.

Gruehls would have had them all popping Xanax before he was done.

Hopefully by this spring protocols will change so that positive tests no longer cancel games between healthy young athletes, especially if they are vaccinated and asymptomatic.

At this point it's hard to see too many more bowl games actually being played.

RE: Bowl Season
Weird...the ACC, the conference who clearly has the most to lose due to their lack of a top dog this year and not really much depth to showcase, is dropping out of games left and right against opponents who will likely win those games and conferences they can't afford to lose any more clout to.

Hmmmmmm

Also, why couldn't Memphis just fly to El Paso and play against Wazzou?

Seems like the ACC bailed pretty early last year, too.

On a note closer to home, both UC and Alabama are in Dallas ready to roll. Alabama reports no players out with Covid. Their 2 coordinators are going to join the team on the day of the game.

Best news I've read today. I guess we'll be holding our breath until Friday kickoff given what's transpiring in the world of sports moment to moment this December.

Incentive plus neither team had a meh 6-6 season and did not have to replace a staff with the mamba line to the transfer portal.

RE: Bowl Season
The biggest problem with these bowl cancellations is the AAC and UC will take a hit financially. The bowl games are not going to pay out the money and I believe Memphis and SMU had made their trip to their bowl destinations so expenses were incurred.

It's something they'll have to take a look at moving forward. The school taking all the risk isn't going to continue happening, covid or not. Especially for a game that is made for TV almost exclusively.

RE: Bowl Season
All bowls games including the playoff games need to happen one to two weeks after conference championship games. I would also support getting of travel and just letting teams host these games in the own stadiums.

Good point. So the American takes a hit regardless but will have the offset of the CFP revenue this cycle. Still, it would have been substantially better if those bowls had been played, making all the CFP earnings incremental this one year.

And the rich get richer I suppose. Was a 5-7 Rutgers filling a big bowl spot a revenue "make good" since the B10 failed to get two teams in the CFP? Follow the dollars; the Scarlet Knights certainly weren't chosen for their excellent season.

I guess UC joined the others in canceling media availability. Probably just an easy chance to avoid media but newsworthy no less.

Per Pete Thamel, Washington State is playing Central Michigan in the Sun Bowl.
