Exclamation Interim DC: Charles Clark
Mentioned within 1st of the video. Is he really under consideration for the full time gig? Seems very risky from CRS point of view

Why not? He's been around the region for a while having been at Ole Miss as a player and a coach prior to joining Memphis in 2020. He's had success with defensive backs in both locations. He basically was with MacIntyre both in Colorado and Ole Miss.

I think he should be under consideration for it.

The risk is perpetuating the same failed philosophy used by MacIntrye with less experience when RS needs to be upping his game to maintain his job.

RE: Interim DC: Charles Clark
Mac tried to take him to FIU to be his DC. He's a great recruiter and one of the up and coming defensive assistants in the country. He was literally the first coach Silverfield hired 2 years ago. I think it is very smart to make him interim DC and see how he does in the Hawaii Bowl - see if he can earn the job. Definitely didn't want to lose him.

Question is will one game against a depleted Hawaii team really show us anything. Maybe he turns you down but I would take a shot at the guy at Liberty. Proven results.

why do you think Scott Symons would leave the Liberty DC job to take the Memphis job?

I don't know. Kyle Pope left Liberty in 2020 after a 1 year with Freeze in 2019 to become our DL coach. Could be a reunion and Memphis still offers better conference and opponents and he was here in 2018. Doesn't mean anything but isn't beyond the pale that isn't possible.

From what they just agreed to pay their HC it seems like Liberty has a lot of money. We don't really know who CRS is talking to behind the scenes, who he may have extended offers to or reached out to to gauge their interest. I thought UAB's David Reeves would be worth investigating.

But I think keeping good recruiters on staff is worthwhile. I'm really impressed with the recruiting class Silverfield just signed along with some very nice transfers who will be coming in. Last year's recruiting class was the highest rated of all time, and this year's looks like it will be a close 2nd. These kids are still young and will take time to develop but the future looks very bright. I know the record this season was disappointing but I'm still very excited about the future of this football team.

I don't know that he would but that doesn't stop me from asking. It's Liberty not Alabama.

You can ask all day but it just doesnt seem likely. hes on a good team. his defense is doing well. We pay the same as Liberty. he comes here for a lateral pay just to potentially get fired in a year? He doesnt need to use Memphis as a stepping stone to get a bigger job. dudes are getting hired out of the sunbelt for bigger jobs. just doesnt make sense imo

I think it's wishful thinking on anyone's part to think they were going outside to make a hire. An internal hire was always going to be the route it seemed. reduce attrition of current players and recruits. Clark is a pipeline to the state of Mississippi due to his Ole Miss days. admittedly, i thought it would have been hankins as he has called plays before and actually been a DC but this seems to be the reason Clark didnt go to FIU

The only people thinking Coach Silverfield is on a hot seat are the braindead that post on message boards or Facebook groups.

It isn't even that warm, much less hot.

It's warm.
Was never going to happen this year, unless something totally blewup.
But next year is a different story.
Notice there's been no customary contract extension - he's now inside that telltale 4-year window.

Norvell and Fuente neither got an extension every year.

It is slightly warmer than cool. Once again, 55th rated recruiting class, 3rd in the AAC. Second highest in Tiger history. We will see how the Bowl goes.

Stop spreading your lies. Just in the last week or two I read on one of the "Fire Ruin Silverfield" threads that recruiting has been very bad the last 2 years, and we all know what experts the "Fire the coach" crowd is. They're never wrong. Just ask 'em, they'll tell you.

You got me. I like making up stats, like Coach had to replace 48 players that missed at least a game, not counting those that missed a series or more. That he played 28 true and redshirt freshmen this year. I guess I should just bow to the experts that I am sure talk to people in the athletic department to get their information.

Hey, Hawaii will fill the stands with dozens of fans...they will have a distinct home field advantage.
