RE: Interim DC: Charles Clark
you guys know how to beat a dead horse better than anyone. A lot of players missed time this year due to injuries. Injuries happen to every team, but its relevant to Memphis because most of their injuries were starters for a few games, or large chunks of the season. you also had CRS playing a lot of young guys--guys from his recruiting classes--so they would be better prepared for the future

I'm not arguing we didn't have player shortages. That has nothing to do with CRS and DC coaching decisions/play calls/soft prevent defense.

Is this a message board for every other team in the nation or a Memphis Tiger board? Thus why i said it's relative to us

Hey look at your post--you said happens to EVERY TEAM---on a MEMPHIS TIGERS BOARD--you reference OTHER TEAMS but demonize me for the same

My point was/is EVERY TEAM has injuries---EVERY TEAM loses starters--EVERY TEAM plays young guys to prepare them for the future---its called football or sports

..just because we had injuries and played young guys --doesn't excuse or give a pass to Ruin for a pizz poor 6/6 record

How would you have predicted the season with a unknown QB, lost two big playmakers at WR and thin at RB.

Remember those were early in the season. I agree that we went prevent against AR State and it nearly cost us. Of course they got the benefit of the doubt on several very bad official calls. That backwards lateral being ruled an incomplete pass kept them in the game, if not for that it's never close. The multiple pass interference (one of them horrible) kept multiple drives alive that led to them keeping it close. But, once again, our offense got very conservative.
We didn't go prevent against Miss State and their long pass play was because our true freshmen DB bit on a play fake and didn't have a deep cover. Outside of that, it was a very well played defensive game and we held them scoreless for their longest stretch all season.
Now, UTSA fits your description. They were a much better team than we expected. We were down multiple starters on defense which really hurt us especially on their 3rd and shorts, which it seemed like happened every time on every drive. I will say it was our offense that cost us far more than our defense. We didn't score for more than a half of play.
Tulsa and Temple, fit that description, but can you say that some of the conservative play calling wasn't because of injuries?

Now, the biggest question... how much of that is CRS?! I know he doesn't call offense and defense. How much input did he have for either? I guess we find out this season. If it's more of the same, he shoulders much more blame in my eyes at least. If it's very different, the OC & DC get credit and he gets some as well.

21pt 4th qtr lead, 18 pt lead in another game. Going for it on 4th down repeatedly in your own territory..... That's on the coaches.

Never had a 21 point 4th quarter lead, but the 4th down thing was a second half of the season and I loved the aggressive nature of it. Showed he was wanting to win. I don't think we lost a game because we went for it on 4th. FG kicking, offense stalling... different stroy.

Good post. I can't disagree with much of that.

Rational debate and discussion, so rare these days.

I could be totally wrong. I fully admit that I am a passionate fan that looks on the bright side in everything. I spend way too much time thinking, researching, watching and discussing Tiger football.

I did notice when the announcers tonight in the Bama game talked about the injuries that Bama was facing meant younger players were getting early exposure, which should pay off in the future. Couldn't help but think of all the young players that got to play this year. While the injury numbers can be debated, I don't remember this many freshmen playing key roles on the team.
