Lol! The arena is sponsored by Legacy Credit Union and is officially named, not colloquially called, Legacy Arena. BJCC Coliseum is the former name and, in this case, would be the modern colloquialism. I appreciate your attempt at thinking, though.

Professional journalists should have a better grasp of the language than what you can expect from bloggers.

Again, context is KEY. The author is speaking about a time period where UAB originally played in Legacy Arena (the colloquialism) before moving to Bartow in 1988. At that time, as you astutely indicated, it was BJCC coliseum until 11 years later.

Yeah, that was the glaring error in the story that stood out to me, even more than his word usage. Kennedy's first game to play in a Blazer uniform was the first game at UAB Arena.

It's not Dudley's fault that money grubbing hedge fund ******** have strip mined the newspaper business and made copy editors an endangered species.

I suppose an argument can be made that a journalist should be able to spell correctly, choose the correct version of homonyms, and proofread his work before uploading it, but that's not an argument to be had at the BJCC.
