I personally feel there are several FCS schools in the West/Midwest region who could potentially make the jump with the facilities to do it:
Montana, MSU, NDSU, SDSU, Idaho, Weber State, UNI, North Dakota, Missouri State, SFA, Tarleton State, Lamar. Northwestern State
If SFA moves up, I'm 90% certain they'd go to CUSA.
Tarleton is far enough west, they could decide between CUSA and this hypothetical new west/midwest region. Same goes for Mo State.
I don't see Lamar or NWSU moving up.
Montana, MSU, NDSU, SDSU, Idaho, Weber St, UNI, UND, Mo ST, NDSU, UTEP, and Tarleton would be a solid conference, once everyone transitioned. Even if Tarleton chose to go CUSA, it'd still be solid.
I don't see it happening under the current NCAA structure, but things could change.
If it DID happen, CUSA's best move would be to move quickly to add SFA, EKU, and maybe a couple of others to strengthen our presence as a southern regional conference. Prioritize football success, basketball strength, fan engagement, and existing rivalries/relationships with current CUSA schools.
(Do I even have to add "but for now let's wait" again? I've said it about 100 times here already, in this thread alone.)
