I personally feel there are several FCS schools in the West/Midwest region who could potentially make the jump with the facilities to do it:

Montana, MSU, NDSU, SDSU, Idaho, Weber State, UNI, North Dakota, Missouri State, SFA, Tarleton State, Lamar. Northwestern State

If SFA moves up, I'm 90% certain they'd go to CUSA.

Tarleton is far enough west, they could decide between CUSA and this hypothetical new west/midwest region. Same goes for Mo State.

I don't see Lamar or NWSU moving up.

Montana, MSU, NDSU, SDSU, Idaho, Weber St, UNI, UND, Mo ST, NDSU, UTEP, and Tarleton would be a solid conference, once everyone transitioned. Even if Tarleton chose to go CUSA, it'd still be solid.

I don't see it happening under the current NCAA structure, but things could change.

If it DID happen, CUSA's best move would be to move quickly to add SFA, EKU, and maybe a couple of others to strengthen our presence as a southern regional conference. Prioritize football success, basketball strength, fan engagement, and existing rivalries/relationships with current CUSA schools.

(Do I even have to add "but for now let's wait" again? I've said it about 100 times here already, in this thread alone.) 03-wink

What about Delaware? Rich football tradition. Academically very good. State flagship university.

I’ve been an advocate for Delaware. They are off to a 5-0 start with attendance averaging 17,372 through 3 home games. Easy addition in my opinion.

I think they've turned CUSA down. It maybe a money issue, but they'd be a great addition in the Philly market.

Delaware's athletic budget at least is the same virtually as JMU's. I have always thought Delaware would be a good addition, but never heard them express interest in FBS.

I honestly thought he might stick it out at JSU because he wanted to do something special for HBCUs.

Guess I was wrong if he is taking the money at Colorado.

NOBODY EVERR "sticks it out".. First rule to accept in G5 football. They say it... but it NEVER happens.

New (former fcs) C-USA members take note.

It’s all about the money. Prime Time got a raise. The CCU guy got a raise. I don’t know if Freeze is getting much more than the $8,000,000 Liberty agreed to but it is certainly higher profile. Not sure why Auburn is so excited about a guy with a 19-21 SEC record but that’s their business.

AP thinks they stick out. According to AP AD, AP will be FBS in 2025 and is going through the process that KSU and JSU is going through. I don't know how they are doing this without an invite from a FBS conference.

Jax State learned this lesson when we were but wee lil FCS lads nearly a decade ago.

We brought in a younger coach who was untested as a HC at the college level. But he was a Jax State alumnus with lots of local ties.

One incredible culture-change season later, rumors began to swirl that he might leave for another program. Ridiculous. All he's really accomplished at Jax State so far is to have a solid rebuilding year and a couple of playoff wins. We're his alma mater, for heaven's sake. He'll stay here at LEAST until he wins a conference championship, and he probably won't be satisfied until he wins a natty. It's in his nature as a competitor!

Then some more rumors.

That program?! Complete dumpster fire! No support from their board of trustees. No fans. Nothing. They play in a rickety old stadium in the bad part of town. No way he'd leave the stability of Jacksonville for that place!!

A few days later... Jax State was looking for a new coach.

Incidentally, the school where that other coach moved disbanded their football program after his first year. So we were right about the dumpster fire.

Now he's a legend there for resurrecting that dumpster fire from the ashes and leading them to three straight divisional titles and two bowl wins, in addition to heading a capital improvements effort which resulted in massive facilities improvements and a brand spanking new stadium. So even though he recently had to retire for health reasons, he made sure the flames of that dumpster fire were totally extinguished before leaving. Heck, they're even moving to a higher profile conference now. God, I hate them. 03-wink

So yeah... we understand good coaches aren't forever. When/if we start hearing rumors Rich Rod is being pursued, we'll just start our search for his replacement and hope we make the right choice. Losing sucks.

It was eight years, not eight million, at five million per. Auburn definitely gave him more than that.

Their HC seems to think the American is the best fit for them in FBS.

From D1.ticker:

With North Dakota State once again set to play in the FCS Championship, questions continue on the future conference home for the Bison. Here’s what NDSU AD Larsen tells The Athletic: “A lot of things have changed in the last 10 years. You’d be crazy if you weren’t looking internally about what’s best for you. [...] Outside of the highest levels of FBS where geography doesn’t matter anymore, it still does for most conferences. We have a great brand, but with certain geography, I would venture to say if we were in a different part of the country, we would have received an invite by now.” As for Bison FB HC Entz: “Just in terms of football, I think our best fit is the American. From a geographical standpoint, there are (four) in Texas, plus Tulsa. Those are in the Central time zone and (others are) in the East, so it would fit for our fans and TV. From a travel standpoint, flying to Dallas is just as fast as Youngstown or Macomb, Illinois.” More.

True but I guess some might think North Dakota has a market for nearly 800,000 given it is the state flagship and ND has nearly 800k That's as big as some of the urban schools they've chosen.

RE: If you could add 1 more…
Should C-USA consider/re-consider NDSU as a FB ONLY add?? BIG (really big) article by Vannini in The Athletic today.

The bad:

-- no recruiting ground

-- no media mkt; their addition would NOT increase the media deal

-- Geography expense/hassle

-- flight risk?? (special iron-clad buyout?)

-- disadvantages of FB ONLY

The good:

-- STRENGTH-- could become a CFP spot contender

-- Somewhat of a national "name"

-- excellent support

-- maybe their addition "might" be enough to add another reluctant candidate from the MVFC?

IMHO in the end I would still say NO. But if you add another "good" or take away a "bad" from the list above--- I might change my opinion. Again-- FB ONLY.

[ Of course all this assumes they would take an invite--- if they are not interested----fine]

NDSU has had some significant attendance drops lately-- should have mentioned this in my post just above^.
