My daughter goes to Purdue and I'm worried a bit about her, but I think Indiana didn't suffer any serious issues? I also have a sister-in-law and nephew who live in Edwardsville, Illinois (where the Amazon distribution center suffered a direct hit). The nephew just lives very close to the Amazon building so I'm reaching out to him to make sure he's okay.

The times of the year where you get those crazy weather swings can produce such damaging weather. It seemed like you were out of the woods once you got to December (compared to say April through June), but I guess that's not exactly true either. I'm looking at a graphic that listed the average number of tornadoes in the US month-by-month (from 1999 to 2018), and December is the least (34, compared to 42 and 41 in January and February). It's closer to 4 to 5 times that amount on average from April through June.

We had watches up this way. Severe storms up towards Lafayette but no tornadoes.

I lived 1/2 my life in Mayfield, Ky and the rest here in Bowling Green . I’ve been out helping clean up today and the destruction is extremely disheartening. Mayfield’ s destruction is on a whole different level and it basically wiped out my hometown :(
The only to places I’ve ever lived has both been destroyed within hours of each other and the loss of life is going to be horrible. I’m fortunate that all my family has survived this horrific event

A little hope may be helpful.

In 2016, my hometown of White Sulphur Springs, WV was hit by a devastating flood. The area was hit with 10 inches of rain in 10 hours. Most of southern WV was affected.

Rain waters literally pushed flaming houses down river. 23 people passed. Most homes flooded.

But the area eventually recovered. Brad Paisley dedicated a beautiful park in a location where homes were completely washed away.

I'm still praying for y'all. Hopefully the communities in Western Kentucky can recover. I've seen recovery myself.

They said on the radio that 500 homes and 100 businesses in Bowling Green have been deemed completely destroyed.

I hope as many people as possible are ok in the affected areas. I hope no one here has had any injuries in their families.

Pictures and videos look devastating. My parents live near Indian Hills Country Club in Bowling Green. Luckily their home did not get hit but they said they could hear the tornadoes and it was pretty damn scary. I have lived in Hurricane Areas from Florida to the U.S. Virgin Islands to now Hilton Head SC for decades and nothing scares me about a Hurricane except the tornadoes that are inside them. I can take 130mph + winds all day but the random destruction of a tornado is just flat out terrifying to me.

Guys, words cannot describe our feelings for your losses. We had substantial damage to our house after Hurricane Ida this year so we know what you are going through, partly why I've been dormant here. The best part that comes out of these horrific events is the communities come together. Everyone has something they can spare so not many go without. I wish I could help out. We are just now starting to get into the rebuilding phase of our house thanks to our tree taking out our chimney. I wish I could tell you it gets easier, but its a long, incredibly grind. Insurance and contractors are going to be incredibly busy.

I hope that everyone yall know is safe and keep their spirits up. There is a long road ahead.

Truly sorry to hear about your losses and I also think it will make the communities come together. The total devastation in Mayfield bothers me more because the total loss of its history which is what makes these small old towns what they are. It took out the whole court square and about 1/2 mile on each side of it. From what I’ve heard the tornado was around 3/4 mile wide with radar reporting speeds over 300mph

RE: OT- Severe Weather Alert Thread- Tornadoes
Losing such a wide swath of the town is the *****. Here we had 120mph sustained for 5-6 hours and those towns get 300mph for 45 seconds. The whole luck of the draw. It hurts to lose so much history.

Man, I hope you guys stay safe too. We had someone fall off a roof and die in our parish (county) when tarping the roof after the storm. Its dangerous out there in all that debris.

Also, take care of yourselves. I lost 15lbs in 3 weeks just picking up in the heat. I lost my appetite and that wasn't all fat.

Prayers up for BG, WKU, and the many areas affected by this storm and the Quad State storm.

Jacksonville has been through it. In addition to the 2018 EF-3 that hit the campus directly, we've been skirted by EF-4s on April 27, 2011 (same supercell which hit Tuscaloosa) and Palm Sunday 1994, both of which caused incredible devastation and loss of life just minutes away from campus. Until you see it with your own eyes, it's really hard to grasp the scale of a "mile-wide path" of EF-3+ damage. And as you start approaching EF-5 damage, it's just unfathomable.

Our hearts are with you all.

Tornado Alley is shifting east and north. It's no longer considered to be Texas and Oklahoma (although those areas can still get tornadoes - they're just decreasing in frequency and strength).

Bowling Green death toll is now up to 15 and counting. I truly hope they don’t have any more. Unfortunately the deaths are among babies and kids. They are saying that more than likely Bowling Green was hit by 3 tornadoes at the same time

22 more missing, so sounds like its going to be worse. Feeling guilty here in Lexington, wish I could do more to help besides donating money.

My family was a lot luckier than others, with no injuries, or deaths but it was scary not knowing. Cell service was down in Owensboro and thats funny because Owensboro only had some light winds while Ohio Co (20 miles) and Warren/BG (70 miles), was hit hard and had cell service.

From the looks of damage in BG only one tornado hit but when we were driving back into town on the interstate it looked like a 2nd one outside of the city. From the damage it looks like a F3 (same hit Owensboro 2000 or 2001) and about as wide I would guess 1/4 mile wide

It stayed on the ground for the whole path of what I guess is 10 mile straight line that we followed

Thanks for the update.

I understand what you're saying. I'm off work today and wanted to go up to BG to volunteer but I also don't want to get in the way of first responders and heavy equipment in the area.

I helped with cleanup at a farmers today. Lost 10 of his 13 barns and lone house. Wife and son worked delivering food to workers in Bremen. Bremen is a town of about 300 and had 12 killed. I lived thru the 1974 tornado that destroyed our house and this was probably worse.

Just read that 7 kids on one street died in Bowling Green Kentucky. That is devastating. Sending my prayers out for the families and all of the Hilltoppers.
