Dishearteningly, North Texas dropped a spot for beating Old Dominion yesterday. I fear what playing USM on Thursday will do to our ranking.

Out of curiosity, and if anyone has the time, what would it look Conference vs Conference, in 2022-2023 without NET 200+ USM, ODU, and Marshall in CUSA but still retaining the AAC bound programs? I imagine it would compare favorably in mid-major ranks

Edit: CUSA would have an average of 118 with #36 UAB , #57 UNT, and #85 LaTech. Solid.

Edit 2: my math is trash

Current CUSA members EXCLUDING USM, ODU and Marshall would have an average NET of 151 using this season's data as of 01.22. It is 132 if you exclude the 3 above plus UTSA that is CUSA's last ranked team at 339.

New AAC average goes up to 123 if you delete UTSA at 331 providing a completely different look.

AAC taking UTSA was always a head scratcher for me....but alas, they are yours like it or not. Gotta factor them in.

And new C-USA goes to 123 without calculating the last place team. Every conference would improve without their worst team

The new CUSA would also go up if you delete its worst NET ranked team (FIU in the 200's). The new AAC would still have a couple teams in the 200's (Tulsa and USF) even if you take out UTSA in the 300's.

If the new SBC deleted their worst ranked NET (USM in the 300's), they still have 5 other programs in the 200's and one more not that far off at 192.

If only it was a simple as deleting our worst NET ranked team. ha

Well, they did have a good football season. You can't put a price on history like that!

Yes, that would happen; but show me one conference were one team has the same negative impact on the ranking as UTSA currently has on the new AAC.

A10-Fordham, but the point is moot. We can talk theoretically all day, like what would happen to CUSA's average NET if we JUUUUST had Auburn, but reality is what it is brother.

9-9 Fordham, I doubt it.

Asked and answered

The WCC average NET goes up 19 spots if you exclude 305 ranked Pacific.
The Big East average NET goes up 14 spots if you exclude 203 ranked Georgetown

but again....if it was just that simple to drop the lowest ranked NET team from a conference.

Thanks, I didn't think it would occur, but was too lazy to do all those computations.

ODU and Marshall not having normal years but it helps the narrative. I don't think any odu fan expects Jones to be around next season. Time to bring in a new up and coming coach to breath some life back into the program.

I hate to admit it, but C-USA isn't going to be a two bid league this year. You can see it in these NET rankings. I guess the best we can hope for is that our conference tournament champ earns a higher seed than last year. Maybe get a 12 seed.
