All but 5 FBS teams this year surrendered an average of 310 yards per game or more. 57 gave up 400 or more. The problem is that Kent State had one of the worst defenses in FBS. Until that gets straightened out, and by that I mean they have just an average defense, I don't think they have to worry about losing their head coach.

You’ll love this one. The announcer just said Purdue’s defense is coming up with big play after big play. They have given up 31 points in 3 quarters.
How things have changed.

With all of the analytics, camera footage, technology, and offensive limitations I'm really surprised that defense doesn't dominate in this era.

All the penalties that can go against an offense. Just off the top of my head, illegal formation, too many men on the line, our favorite illegal player down field. The defense can line up almost any way they want with the exception of covering the center. There's no false start, illegal shift or player not set.

Oh, OK. I see what you meant.

All that’s true but the way they call pass interference, defensive holding, horse collars, roughing the passer and targeting these days wipes out all of it times at least 3. Bring back the bump and run and watch scoring drop.

Watching CMU go toe to toe with WSU and knowing that Montana (FCS but good team - Montana State won FCS title BTW); suggests that is we can get a defense we should be competitive with U Washington next season. Of course that's an IF!

RE: Idaho Bowl
Not sure if anyone remembers before the bowl season began that our bowl was ranked last in some desperate sportswriter’s list of all the bowl games.
Well, now that all but one of the bowls are done, there’s another clickbait list of how good the bowls were.
Long story short: Tater Bowl #7

Also of note, NIU’s bowl #1.
