This.

The difference in mediocre and good is the guy you snap the ball to. Hit the portal and get someone to compete immediately.

I think the raw talent level at QB is fine. What we need is a QB whisperer. You don't have to change the scheme and I don't want a QB to be a huge running threat. A QB running ends one of 3 ways, a slide, a run out of bounds or a safety trying to decapitate him.

Disagree on the overall raw talent at QB. I do think Dylan Hopkins has grown into a quality starter. Lucero has some talent. I just think there needs to be better competition at that spot overall. You don't think Malik Willis' running ability was a factor vs UAB?

I would agree that the more competition at the position the more the play is elevated. Willis is sort of a physical anomaly and that's just not something you can count on year in and year out. A mobile QB is good, a running QB is great....right up until the time a LB makes him breathe out his ear hole. I was thinking more in terms of a teacher of the position that is going to bring in more quality talent year in and year out.

RE: Recruiting Needs
UAB definitely needs a QB who can push Hopkins in the offseason. He made a lot of strides but needs to take it to the next level next season. What he did this year won't be good enough with the roster turnover.

Don't care who you are in the G5, you have a ceiling until you get a super stud at QB. Game managers can win you a lot of ballgames but it is extremely rare to go next level with it until you get a Brett Favre, David Carr, Blake Bortles, Malik Willis, Byron Leftwich type in the backfield.

Just wanted to point out again that the UAB sports website doesn't have a QB coach listed as part of our staff. I'm going to cherry pick and say that is one of the many reasons we have average at best QB play. Don't try to tell me that Brian Vincent can be a good OC AND be solely responsible for coaching the QB room

RE: Recruiting Needs
Is it not concerning that UAB hasn’t signed a meaningful local(Birmingham Metro area) skill player since Spencer Brown in 2017?

...there's rumors afoot that Auburn's starting QB the last few years may be hitting the portal... 05-stirthepot05-stirthepot05-stirthepot
