Monday Musings
The footballing eagles will head to Alabama a little further south then I predicted but will be home by Christmas. Mobile is a fun town with no casinos though. The portal is open the carousel is spinning and a lot can happen between now and the bowl game.
84 teams made bowl games over 1/2 of the FBS playing teams. ESPN created a frisco bowl to not leave someone out...
Michigan had a dream season, NIU went from 0-6 to MAC champs and we stay in the middle.
Basketball season is making the the turn toward the one bid conference play.
Some construction is happening behind the left field wall of Oestrike, I do not know what it is but I am wonder if we are building a left field tailgate zone like Mississippi state has for baseball? nah, Oestrike is the coldest baseball stadium on earth.. That is all

Here is something for MBB fans to chew on.

At least MAC West FB is good. CMU, NIU, etc. aren't very good (understatement).

Yeah maybe the conference is a one bid conference. We will see conference play begin in about 3 weeks. Some teams are starting to jell others may never do so this season. Is the sum greater than the individual parts? Should make for interesting conference games.

CMU, with their crazy schedule, is in a free fall. I think they trailed W. IL. yesterday by almost 30 points at the half before the ole gar bage' time took hold in the 2nd half.

CMU is becoming to MAC MBB what the Lions are to the NFL.

On paper they added some impressive guys. Wonder if they have injuries. We have done better than projected so far but there Is alot of basketball yet to be played. CMU WMU were picked in front of us and NIU behind us.

It's the new soccer field. They are putting lights, new dugouts for the teams, more and improved stands for the fans. The field will be turf. They have to put in a retaining pond so they had to remove the hill.07-coffee3

Yup, there is a whole lot of basketball to be played for sure. Also, when you are a MAC coach the sum total of truly meaningful games played thus far is ZERO. No conference games to date and with the MAC being a one-bid league forever, the OOC record is inconsequential.

I think that clearly our best player is Farrakhan and he missed two games presumably to injury. Honestly MAC teams in November and December are wise to sit their stars if dinged up.

NFL is proving something can be learned from the MAC and MACtion.

Playing outdoor FB in very tough conditions (p.s. at least the air quality is EXCELLENT). Too bad Big Ben isn't playing tonight. He knows this stuff.

As the website will update, I'm 'memorialize' the weather now: 44 degrees, winds 16 MPH WSW with gusts to 31 MPH.

Oops, it is getting worse as I post:

Steve that is where the terms "Bears and Steelers weather" came from. In the NFL tournament you play in the higher seed's stadium until the Super Bowl. Watch the Al Davis-Pete Rozell 30 for 30 program on ESPN. Al whined that his Raiders were built on speed and when forced to play in Pittsburgh on a frozen field, they had no chance.
Al was right, bad weather negates speed and favors bulk as Ohio State found out two weeks ago in Ann Arbor and in 2014 in East Lansing. OSU, however, has been the only cold weather team to make a dent in the NCAA final rankings recently because it is built on speed.

The NCAA has a built-in advantage for Southern and Western teams. They almost NEVER play in temperatures below 50 degrees and most bowls are played in better conditions. Unfortunately, B1G and MAC teams have to survive their conferences playing in lousy conditions just to get to a bowl game. The most impactful programs in recent decades have been the NE Patriots in the NFL and Alabama in the NCAA. Kinda makes sense to me given how things are currently configured.

The same can be said for all college sports that are played outside, soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, any sport played outside the summer team have a huge advantage.

Here is a flash back. Rob Murphy and PxP man, Chad Bush, will do a kids day, not with EMU, but with the Motor City Cruise, the Pistons' G-league team.
