Maybe. UAB has the second best record in C-USA. Marshall was tied for the 4th best record in C-USA nearly beat ULL.
You mean that UAB team we beat last season at their place and broke their 15 game home won streak? That team? FFS!

Good game, Marshall! All The Herd faithful I ran into were wonderful and I can’t wait to share a conference with y’all. Would love a rematch in the CCG!
Nobody approves that targeting hit. The “coach” people refer to was a GA and he too was told to zip it up for cheering. It’s been said that Wilson did not see the fair catch call. Nonetheless still targeting.

Deb!!!!
So glad you stayed up late to help us celebrate our wins:
13-1
R1
All in 2021!!!!
Congrats on barely beating the 5th best CUSA team in a bowl game. Hopefully no Marshall players were spit on tonight. Nice cheap shot from a Cajun player tonight too. That is the cULLture though in Ragin Cajun land.
Barely beating a solid Marshall squad by 15 in one breath. Getting smoked by a down Texas squad by 20 in the next. Makes complete sense.

I honestly think that if Tech fans on the board were allowed to vote and put three ULL fans on mute on this site and ULL fans were allowed to vote and put three Tech fans on mute also, this issue would be solved. A small handful of fans on both sides are always looking for the chance to antagonize the other.
I have had some pleasant interactions with ULL fans and I know there are good ones, but there is an annoying few that constantly troll and try to stir the pot. And I fully admit that ULL fans could say the same towards Tech fans.

Is that because Tech-ULL represents a rivalry? Just asking...

If rivalry is decided by a high level of vitriol between fandoms on a message board, then yes.
If it's decided by on the field results, then no.

One other caveat: for it to be a true rivalry, games must be played consistently, every year. Other wise you get very skewed results.

The sample size is very large in the non-football sports and the history is pretty damn even. Football has a much much smaller sample size. It’s unfortunate.

RE: Marshall vs ULL New Orleans Bowl
I think in the next 3-5 years after more conference realignment we'll end up in the same league, and then that will probably be for a very long time.
As for the current status, I think there is a rivalry between the schools, across the board. Schools don't have to share a conference to be rivals...just look at Florida vs. Florida State or a number of other examples. I reject the on-the-field results test as well. Anyone growing up in the New Orleans-Baton Rouge area remembers the old Tulane vs. LSU rivalry. It was always the last regular season game and even though LSU usually won it never dimmed the intense "hatred" between the schools. And when Tulane won...which they did twice in a 30-year span, all hell broke loose.
Tech and ULL (when they were USL) have shared conference affiliation before. The Southland Conference of the 1980's was a VERY good league. In 1984-85 the little ole SLC had 4 teams in the Top 40 rankings in hoops: Tech, USL, Lamar, and McNeese. It was a very, very good baseball league too.
My brother earned his master's degree from USL in the early '80's. I would go down to Lafayette whenever Tech played and we would go to the games. One football game, which the Cajuns won 29-19, there was a large crowd. Unsually large according to all the USL fans I spoke to. One said, of course there's a big crowd, we're playing Tech. That's 40 years ago now and even back then Tech-ULL (USL) was a big deal.
