That fumble cost you guys a good opportunity to tie it. Good game though.

We were always a couple plays short this season. The TD pass at the end of the half at FAU. The Hail Mary at the end of the game at UNT. The special teams fumbles at UAB. The fumble today. Just how it goes.

Terrific effort against a pretty good Fresno team, nothing to be ashamed about. UTEP was really bad not that long ago, so this is a huge turnaround.

The good news? It wasn’t a blowout. The bad news? Moral victories don’t count.

There’s always next year, right?

That should be the UTEP football slogan.

I guess I shouldn’t be upset or disappointed. I expect more from the basketball team, to be honest. It bothers me more that UTEP hasn’t been to the NCAAT since 2010 than not winning a bowl game since the LBJ administration.

Stout effort against a pretty dang good team... the Miners are trending up BIG time - y'all have us at home next year, and that's gonna be a major tilt... 04-rock

Agreed about basketball... With how much emphasis we put on basketball. We better see major improvements there.

The schedule next year is much more difficult, but if this team is that good, we should be able to get 7 wins again.

No, they won't be.
That part of the plan won't happen until Texas and Oklahoma move.
Technically, USM, ODU, and Marshall can move to the Sunbelt next year if they want to - which I heard they are trying to leave CUSA sooner than 2023.

I guess I shouldn’t be upset or disappointed. I expect more from the basketball team, to be honest. It bothers me more that UTEP hasn’t been to the NCAAT since 2010 than not winning a bowl game since the LBJ administration.

I’m feeling the same way as you except I’m reversed about football than basketball. UTEP actually went twelve years from 1992 until 2004 when they finally returned to the NCAA tournament. Although UTEP has yet to win an NCAA Tournament game since 1992, and that was back when Don Haskins was still head coach.

In the meantime we’ve seen two of three droughts end which is 1) UTEP is no longer the only basketball program to win a national championship in men’s basketball in Texas with Baylor now winning a national championship and 2) NMSU made it to a bowl game for the first time since 1960 and won their bowl.

The third drought which has yet to end is UTEP winning a bowl game since 1967 and has now lost its least seven bowl games since including all its three trips to the New Mexico Bowl. It doesn’t make the football program look good when it hasn’t won a bowl game since Lyndon B. Johnson was President. Perhaps it could be a reason why UTEP isn’t a consistent bowl team nearly every season and why UTEP usually ranks dead last in the conference in recruiting I don’t know. Maybe players don’t want to come here to play for this reason. UTEP was left out of being invited from joining the Mountain West Conference when it originally formed probably due to the football status. Even a former national coach of the year (Mike Price) sadly couldn’t succeed in not only turning around UTEP into a consistent winner every season in football but in also ending the bowl victory drought having lost all three bowl games he guided UTEP to.

It’s sadly getting to the point some Miner fans for some years now think it’s time to just do away with the UTEP football program if not only it can’t consistently win in football but also can’t even win a bowl game at all since 1967:
