Buddy, I get it. I probably should have phrased it differently. All the best.

I’m looking forward to it!

I agree with this. In the end, SBC is the winner. It’s a showcase of future SBC strength that will be on display. I gotta root for Marshall because they are fellow veterans of the CUSA wars with us, the one CUSA peer that USM has identified with and respected for many seasons in a damaged league. No offense Cajuns, we will be knocking heads and having fun in the SBC west soon enough.

love the match up but think Louisiana deserves more. Going forward the SBC is gonna have to have the bowl tie-ins tweaked. After the conference realignment moves a 12-1 ranked SBC champ can't be playing a 7-5 Sam Houston or whoever. SBC champ (if not in a NY6) should be playing a G5 champ, the G5 conference runner up of which conference champ made the NY6, or like a 8-4 P5.

This year examples: NIU, UTSA, Utah State, Houston, Arkansas, Iowa State...

A MAC Champ has played a SBC team more often than not since App's realignment. In the 7 bowl seasons the MAC Champ has played an SBC member 4 times, at least.

2015 - BGSU got demolished by GS
2017 - Toledo got blanked by App
2019 - Miami lost to ULL.
2021 - NIU playing CCU

Really need to be knocking off the best Mountain West and AAC teams we can. Bowl season gives the opportunity to see schools play that don't schedule each other.

I agree MAC Champs are great to play to prove the gap between conferences. Unless their helmets say Ohio though I don't care for Marshall to play them though. Played the MAC schools since the existence of football began and always take turns playing them ooc every year.

RE: Marshall-Louisiana in New Orleans Bowl, per Brett McMurphy
Gotta remember the SBC had 2 bowl tie-ins this past decade. When opportunities to secure more were given they were signed. Current contract with ESPN bowls goes through 2025. NOLA and Mobile might have their own requirements for their contract partners. CUSA not being able to guarantee enough bowl teams in 2023/2024 might accelerate the process. The old SBC teams worked to get here. 2014 adds and beyond have been cashing in on their work. Now it's time to get our institutions to get more done.

CUSA’s top teams didn’t get to pick the bowl or the opponent. We were able to give a preference of where we would like to go but the where and the who was ultimately ESPN’s decision. In these Bowl Week games, ESPN doesn’t really care about the best match-up. They’re only concerned with how many viewers will likely tune in to the match-up and how many tickets the teams will sell.

You're still under 500 posts, if that's a question of why.

Very happy for this opportunity. If we’re healthy and bring our A game we have a chance to be competitive with the best team in the SBC, this year. I was hoping for a SBC matchup, but honestly didn’t think it would be Louisiana…I agree with others that the Ragin’ Cajuns deserved a conference champion. I thought we’d see Coastal or Georgia State.

Having said that I’m excited about a preview game with Louisiana. Go Herd!

24th in the CFP rankings somehow.

Don't think that was the case but will find out. Everyone was hinting battling BYU and taking Independence Bowl which is highest revenue bowl for CUSA. If anything, BYU should be nervous about UAB.

In a way, playing SDSU could be sweet revenge. They were ranked well ahead of most G5 schools all season. Got destroyed in conference championship and still remain ranked in CFP. Over a 12-1 Louisiana and UTSA

Huh? Louisiana is ranked above SDSU in the CFP rankings, AP, and Coaches poll.

Sounds like a good way for Marshall to meet some of the Sun Belt West's finest.

As someone who has viewed Marshall as a rival for over 20 years and with what App/ULL have grown into... This game is must freakin' see teevee.

Hopefully I'll be rousing from my prenoon drunk + celebration in Boca to catch in in the hotel.
