Exclamation Realignment Moving Faster Than Expected?

Shane Mettlen@Shane_DNRSports

Hearing over the past couple of days that ODU, Marshall and Southern Miss will inform CUSA early in the week they intend to join the Sun Belt in 2022. Everything right now officially has those three joining July 1, 2023.

In turn, it sounds as though JMU, Sam Houston and Jacksonville State are working with the NCAA on some kind of waiver to cut down the transition period, though details on that are a little less clear, but CUSA needs to speed up the process so waiver is likely to be approved.

Realignment Moving Faster Than Expected?
Is there “rumblings” about Cincy and Houston leaving the AAC early?
This would then speed up our entry into the AAC.

RE: Realignment Moving Faster Than Expected?
I think the only way the AAC teams move early is if Oklahoma and Texas leave early.

Not beyond the realm of possibility esoecially if the Big 12 dictates that they are ineligible for conference championships as JMU's conference did. Lame duck status is not good.

I don't mind staying longer in CUSA if Liberty and NMSU go ahead and join. That gives us two quality basketball opponents.

I'm sure UCF, UH, and UC would love to leave early but I'm sure Aresco would hold those three schools feet to the fire to pay those exit fees. I think the earliest they leave is 2023. Also, as long as Texas and OU are in the Big XII, Bowlsby will not be in a rush to usher them out of the conference for financial reasons.........unless they decide to pony up and pay the Big XII what they are owed.

Kind of a wash losing ODU and Marshall. Losing USM is good until they show a pulse in basketball. I'd love to schedule them in the future OOC when they finally decide to invest in basketball.

I'm all for losing them early and getting a different football schedule for our last season.

Speaking of investing it's about time we invest in marketing our big two sports. We are spending pennies.

Yep! There was hardly any marketing for the Protective Stadium grand opening. Could have easily been a sellout with marketing and a real push for individual game ticket sales.

Marketing is more than just spending money. There are strategic things that could be impactful that don’t cost a penny.

Exactly so. Brand-new stadium, 242 beer taps, winning team, 18,000 fans. I thought we had the bestest AD in the history of besting?

I went to every game and had a great time. It was everything I'd hoped for and expected. Covid concerns me, but there was plenty of room to keep distant.

I used to worry about things like attendance, but that's not my job.

But I sure as the fiery hell that awaits the Falwells don't want to be in a conference with the Fighting Pool Boys, their whoremongering coach (at least his new contract will let him afford a burner phone) or their rape-enabling AD. Not even for one season. If making a boneheaded call on fourth-and-inches is the worst thing Bill Clark does this year, I'll take it.

RE: Realignment Moving Faster Than Expected?
If no realignment happens next season, we are probably due for a home game vs MTSU/Charlotte and road game at FIU.

They usually don’t release conference schedules until February

If no realignment, it’d be mirror of this season — Marshall in Bham, FAU in Boca.

If the three teams leave for the Sun Belt, I presume cusa would just proceed with unbalanced divisions, 6 in the west, 5 in the east. they did so when uab was inactive.

I honestly don’t know why I didn’t realize we were flip flopping every two years.

*facepalm*. stupid me. That is boring, however, but who doesn’t want Marshall coming to town?

In the Sun Belt, JMU is starting its transition next year and I think they are going to count as a conference game for the east side. Could Jax St do the same for CUSA?

Interesting thought. Or maybe Sam Houston State?
