I think a nine team league (for now) is definitely the way to go. No need to add just to add to get to some arbitrary number. I have always said nine was the ideal number. It allows for a complete round-robin in football and a very manageable 16 game conference basketball schedule...Everyone plays everyone the same amount of times.

We joined CUSA at the same time and it looks like our game in 2010 will be the last in our series.

Yeah man, I know. I always enjoyed playing you guys.. UTEP has a storied history.

We may play more often now that we will be in separate leagues. If our football program has finally elevated itself to annual bowl eligibility then meeting once every 5 years in a bowl would be a hoot. Best of luck in the SBC.

And I think you all are going to be bowl eligible for years to come. And I agree with you. Here's to meeting in future bowls 04-cheers

Good luck to the Miners, my friend.

I really enjoyed conferencing with USM. Too bad y'all have fallen on hard times. But, I don't really view the Sun Belt West as an improvement. Of course the Belt's media deal is far better than C-USA's. But If I were a USM fan, I'd rather the team stay in C-USA West for another season with LA Tech, UAB, UNT, Rice, UTSA, & UTEP. In my opinion it is a better divisional line-up than ULM, Arkansas State, Texas State, ULL, & USA.

As if UNT has ever done anything. If your horrible coach had not found Mason Fine in a garbage pile somewhere in OK you would have 2 more losing seasons. As decent as Fine was he only had 2 winning seasons at UNT, 5-7, 9-5, 9-4, 4-8.

UNT has had exactly 6 winning seasons since 2000 (2002, 2003, 2005, 2013, 2018, 2019). And you think UNT going to extremely watered down American is going to change that, and its going to miraculously make Rice winners too HuH. You understand that not one of the programs left behind in the AAC wants you there right.

That's a pretty crappy thing to say. This year is going to be 5 out of 6 bowls for NT. Yes, we have not been world beaters. But, that is not awful either. Basketball has been very good with McCasland and will continue to do so.

The school has been spending the money necessary and will continue to increase the budget in the AAC. Check back with me in a few years and lets see where Marshall is vs North Texas. I hope the best for you guys. But, to assume that North Texas is not going to succeed is just idiocy. No G5 program is able to have sustained success. It's cyclical because of coaches being snapped up by P5's and transfers. We have a very young football team that has has found life this year, despite a lot of early injuries. Next year looks very promising, especially if we can even get average QB play.

I have never said a rude comment about any school in this forum. But, at least a couple of you Marshall fans are just asses. Fortunately, there are not many members in this forum. So, you are probably not typical of most Marshall fans.

Yes, Judy and her staff need the new Jeep Grand Wagoneers. big bonuses, and big Raises since they are responsible for the windfall.

Have you seen the prices on those things? The fully decked out version is $110,000! Who is even their target market.

I wonder if the AAC schools will move quicker now, too.

Shouldn't be anything holding up Liberty from joining asap.

Not too many Tech folks really commenting on any of this, but for whatever my opinion is worth:

1. Farewell, good luck and we will miss USM, UAB, UTSA, UNT and Rice...A LOT. We didn't really ever establish much with Marshall nor ODU because of the 14-team league, but the respect is definitely there...good luck to y'all too, Herd and Monarchs.

2. Maybe even more importantly for our fan base...I know it's been almost 2 months now, but I think most Tech folks' heads are still spinning, and I think we're really still trying to process what just happened. I know I am.

As we try to move forward, I hope we can all be civil to one another. This is a LOT to process.

Marshall and UTEP had no business playing consistently, so the scheduling worked out in that regard. Did utep ever beat Marshall? Seems like we got destroyed in football, every single time.

The last time Marshall played in El Paso they ended up firing their coach.

You must be young as hell. The series between the 2 schools is tied at 2 to 2.

Ok, understood. The only reason I knew the record is I looked it up. If UTEP had been playing Marshall regularly, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have an even record with them.

I was too lazy to look it up but I'm happy to see coach price kept us competitive against Marshall. Marshall definitely would own the series if we had played more often over the last decade.

Our battles with Marshall in basketball were always pretty fun.... Esp when they had Whiteside.

We should all remember the true enemy here. The P5. I will root for all of you against them every game. Good luck to everyone. It's a shame the band has split up. It was an honor playing with you all these past few years.

I am not sure. Liberty might be not quick to give up the home games they have with BYU and VA. Tech in 2022.
