RE: @Jacksonville - GAME 7
I'd be fine with honoring Wicks, but I'd be curious to find out if he's active in the community here?

Apparently he's lived in eastern NC since 2006 (splitting some of that time in Los Angeles) but I had no idea he was here. Beyond picking our region of the country for his retirement I'd like to be able to recognize him for more than just his basketball career, if he's been involved in the region in any capacity.

It tells me that at the very least you could do a Google search on it and find out the history of UCLA basketball and that the guy played on an incredible team followed by a NBA career. If you extend a hand of friendship to guys like this it might actually pay off but just saying no to everything is why programs wilt and possible opportunities are lost . Do a little digging and see where the guy is at in his life and take it from there-maybe ? I met him here years ago in Hampstead and he seemed to be a regular dude-just hanging out .

I know who he is, just didn't know of any connection to UNCW.

It's pretty simple. If you are a basketball fan you recognize that players who were on national championships teams are pretty rare. And if you have one of those players in your area, recognize them and then let your players get to know them. It's a win/win all around whether he's connected to UNCW or not.

Exactly why you reach out to people and maybe get that connection or just give a guy a nod for a job well done - think small and stay small .

I think the point is how would anyone even know he's there if he's just chilling in retirement. It doesn't sound like he's out in the community letting people know he's there. And further, how do we know that people at UNCW DID know he was there and even reached out and he wasn't interested? For someone who doesn't like speculating, sure seems like there is a lot of that here.

Sidney still has a place in Cali. He was going to move back k there on a more permanent basis. Seems he he has changed his mind about that since he is still a regular at O2 fitness.

Who cares what we did or didn't know? It's not a blame situation. But now we know. What's the harm in reaching out?

Just because WE know doesn't mean UNCW knows. That's my point. If they do know, i don't disagree

RE: @Jacksonville - GAME 7
The Jacksonville team doesn't look like they have had an established group of starters so far. Only one player has started all seven games, two have started six games, and one has started five. So looking at minutes played and ppg. these are the players we can expect to see the most:

Davis Jordan 6'3" 195 lb. G, grad. 10.9 ppg, 3.9 reb, 31.6 minutes avg., 6-20 from three, 39% fg
Bryce Workman 6'7" 230 lb F, RS Jr. 8 ppg, 4.8 rebs, 25.3 min avg. 56% fg
Mike Marsh 6'10" 250lb F RS So 10 ppg, 5 reb, 22.6 min avg, 58% fg
Tommy Bruner 6'1" 180lb G RS So 8.7 ppg, 10-31 from three, most three point attempts on team
Osayl Osifo 6'8" 225 lb F RS Jr 8.4 ppg, 5 rebs, 78.8% FG, 18.4 mins
George Pridgett 5'10" 153lb G Fr 5 ppg, 9-23 from three(39%)
Gyasi Powell 6'2" 185 lb G RS F 3.9 ppg, 27% FG, 23.8% from three

IMO, this will look a lot like the Pitt game. Jacksonville has only attempted 120 three pointers out of their 392 total fg attempts(30.6%). Jordan Davis plays the most and also takes most of their shots with 69 fg attempts(only 20 three pt. attempts), Tommy Bruner with 59 attempts and Mike Marsh with 50 attempts.

However, Jacksonville won't have the same caliber of players as Pitt. They avg 15.6 TO's so his seems like a game where UNCW can really turn up the pressure, cause TO's and push pace before their big men can get on defense.

Hope it goes down like that 82. They really play good defense so that worries me and we are 4 point underdogs.

RE: @Jacksonville - GAME 7
We have GOT to get some sort of motion offense in the half court. A whole bunch of standing around and whole bunch of one on one. We have two guys planted at the three point line in each corner and they literally don't move. One of the worst offensive schemes I have ever seen. Short of Michaell Jordan, it would make no difference who we put on the court, we couldn't score. I'll bet on an average posession we don't have a single player who strays more than 10 feet from where they start on offense. We are so easy to defend.

Hawks down 30-10 with 4:00 in the half. Twelve turnovers already, 3-13 fg's. Meanwhile Phillps sits on the bench having played just 6 minutes. Brilliant strategy. We are embarassingly bad. This may be worse than the Charlotte game I walked out on that was the beginning of the end of the McGrath era. Wow. We're just jacking up contested threes without even trying.
