This is almost the exact opposite style of offense we have a UNCW where we pretty much stand around with no cutting or picks. Can't hurt to try some of this.

But if the highest paid employee at UNCW needs tips from this message board about where to go to on YouTube for insights on how to fundamentally remake his offense only a few games away from his conference opener in his second season as head coach, then Houston - we have a problem.....

Of course we have a problem. The post was done in jest, dripping with sarcasm, but with a slight hope it catches someones eye. If we're to the point of playing Sims at PG, how is this post a reach?

Maybe it's my old age, but apparently I am more patient than most on these threads. Doesn't mean I don't get frustrated. With the covid year, and the transfer portal fiasco, I was determined to give things a chance into Siddle's third year. But I was also expecting to see at least a gradual improvement. It seems though, that something is rotten in Denmark. A lot has to be corrected by conference play. If there is a method to this madness, I sure can't see it.

I get it. I was trying to be sarcastic as well.

I guess there's precious little humor - even sarcastic gallows humor - in the current situation.

Hopefully we will start an actual point guard in the next game and start a turnaround.

You could see last year that we were not that far away but didn’t have the bodies. This year has more players but roles are seemingly less defined.

Yesterday sucked. It was a worst case in that we are trying to find ourselves and Jacksonville put on another defensive clinic. I didn’t see it but Scribe wrote that they were blowing up ball screens and pack-lining. I think they mixed in a 3/2 also.

Most of us have been around ball for a while and have been on both ends of a situation like Saturday either as a player, coach or fan. Scribe put it well in writing that this will definitely cause a change. Heck, even if it’s just a hand-off that goes into a weave into some pick and roll action against man. That gets basically 4 guys moving at once. Zone is recognizing the type, organization and execution. Hope we see improvements against Mt. Olive.

A game right now against My. Olive is a worst case scenario since pretty much anything we do will likely work. We will learn nothing from this game and then have only two OOC games to get on track.

The only thing that will make me feel better about our team is if I see a whole lot of cuts and picks leading to layups. If we're standing around at the corners jacking three balls and our guys are going one on one from the top of the key, it will mean nothing has changed. In that case, it won't matter if we win by 50. I just don't want to see more of what we've been doing, and I especially don't want to see Sims at PG.

It's a good thing that my COVID booster + Flu shot knocked me out, because I didn't feel much like writing after all of that.

I've probably leaned further toward patience than most folks around here. Heck, I might be the furthest in the camp of believing that Siddle deserves time to work things out and yesterday doesn't change that. Unless something absolutely catastrophic happens between here and March, I think it's pretty extreme to think about needing a change before the end of the 2022-23 season. Continuity and experience are winning in college basketball right now, and while we have some experience, we don't have much continuity.

With all of that said, yesterday was one of the most disappointing performances I've seen from a UNCW team since I first walked into Trask in the fall of 2004.

I was disappointed that, with more than a week off to prepare, our team showed up looking like it had no idea how to handle Jacksonville's defense. They defend well, and I'm curious to watch how they'll develop down the road. Obviously, Mincy is on to something there. Guess there's a reason Brownell wanted him back in 2005.

I was really disappointed that we never made any significant run. It didn't feel like the emotional response was there after getting behind.

That was a departure from what we've seen from the start of last season. We've been overmatched and we've run out of gas, but I always felt like our guys were going to fight back and play their hearts outs.

Yesterday was really the first time I've wondered what the heck is going on, but like I said on Twitter, that game is a turning point because you absolutely have to reevaluate everything.

The next week will be very telling about where we're at as a program and where we're headed for the rest of this season. I'm excited for these guys to get back on the floor on Wednesday and Saturday winnable games. I have faith that SOMEONE is going to take it upon themselves to speak up, bring our emotion to another level and make their teammates better.

So, yes -- Saturday was awful. There's no excuse for that.

What happens next will truly tell the story on whether that was just a really bad game or something deeper we need to be concerned about.

Short of a moral or legal failure, Siddle will be here at least thru next season so no need to discuss that. I am patient in insisting on waiting to see what we look like on the court. IMO it's pointless to fret about what might happen, but once we're playing the play speaks for itself. No matter what happens I am still a proponent of a coach who utilizes full court pressure, so I'm on board with Siddle in that aspect. But he has got to either recruit stellar scorers who can flat out shoot the three or institute an offense that gets players easy shots. It's obvious we don't have stellar scorers this year, so the only option is for Siddle to radically change our offense. That's on him, and if it doesn't happen soon he will be banking his head coaching career on next year.
