As for why are we going to Hawaii? I expect that it was "our turn" to go there. We've gone to stateside bowls, and got to go to Birmingham & Montgomery several times. Albeit not the ideal bowl locales, those are drivable bowl trips for the fans. We had better records those years, though. Considering our 6-6 record this year, I expect that if there was ever a time to go to Hawaii, this was the year.

It was our turn in the box

We are the bell cow in the conference now. We were getting this bowl because the coach wanted it for the players.

Lol

It sounds comical, but he ain't wrong.

Moving forward, the AAC is going to do absolutely zilch to help the defectors. Memphis will be the only school in this new league that draws any national attention on tv.

Yes for the players as a reward.

It's not hard to figure out.

Plus Coach said so to me, it's exactly what we wanted and requested.

You’re right it isn’t hard to figure it out. He knew nobody was going to the bowl game anyway so might as well go out there

It is whether you want to admit it or not. What was the attendance for the Tulane game? I was there. 15K tops

was far less than 15,000..yet that played zero into the decision on which bowl game we would go to. We will loose money on any bowl we attend with our record.

Hawaii was the bowl game we were going to for the players. A good feel good to a bad season.

Losing is not good and for the first time in a long time so this is needed.

It's happening now on the basketball team losing is now put the players into two if not three different buckets with different agendas - losing makes this happen.

Taking a trip to make people feel good is a good thing. Especially w players putting their bodies on the line for us fans.

RE: Serious question about the AAC bowl games
Of course it's a good trip for the players.
And, yes, the players and coaches wanted the trip.
Did the HC call me up and inform me of this, so I could put it on the board?
No - he simply said it in EVERY interview he's given since the announcement.
And, of course, he couldn't say we wanted a higher profile bowl game because we weren't going to get one.
It was our turn, and it's one of the lower profile games that go to teams with 6-6 records.

This will be the first Bowl game we have missed, been to every one since 2003.

Had there been one more trip to Legion field after Paxton left, I was going to sit that one out.

The situation with the bowl game is perfect. It's a GREAT trip for the players and coaches, we will be helped by the conference as every other conference participant has been in the past, and we won't get penalized for not traveling well, when almost nobody is traveling anyway. Everyone has to have their turn at Hawaii, it couldn't have turned out better for us.

I agree with Frenchie on this one.

Me agreeing with Stammers might be an indication that the Apocalypse is at hand. I'd suggest everyone stock up on canned food, ammo, and toilet paper...tonight.

I agree but there were more fans at that game than 2017(10-3) when we played Tulane. announced crowd was 17 k. no way there was 10k.... I parked next the stadium that game.

I wish we'd swap the Hawaii Bowl for the Independence Bowl. We'd (the AAC) usually have a P-5 opponent (BYU this yr) & it'd we drivable.

The bowls are basically TV filler (mostly owned by ESPN), they don't care how many people you bring as you are on the hook for the minimum number of tickets anyways.

I recently used that expression around some 20 something crowd and was met with blank looks and the “what box” question. It was not a place the story could be told. Lol

Cool hand Luke ref right?
