RE: Tech hiring Texas Tech OC Sonny Cumbie as next HC

Here's to hoping USM/LT continue OOC scheduling. It only makes sense. Looking at both USM and LT's future schedules...I think you'll probably see USM start trading H/H's every year beginning in 2025. As a matter of fact, you can bank on it.
Most poor G5 schools are looking for bus trips in OOC....
Western usually has a 4 to 5 hour home and home on the schedule...usually the MAC but also Troy and lucked into a home and home with a Big12 school with a home and home vs Cincinnati starting in 2025
If there's a FBS school with in a short bus trip and not in your conference. If they are not on your schedule someone is wasting 100k or 150k

Absolutely, we need to play USM on some regular basis. Maybe not every year in football, but no more than 2-3 years between series. Can do H-H every two years, for instance.
And definitely need to play every year in baseball. H-H for two weekday games, or maybe even a 2-game series at one location, flipping the next year.

I sure as heck hope you are right. I want to keep "Rivalry in Dixie".

LSU people were upset when UTSA hired Frank Wilson, a couple of them even making YouTube videos expressing their lament. Granted, he was only a RB coach at LSU at the time, but we're happy he's gone now.
I think that Cumbie should do well at LA Tech though. The Bulldogs have had offensive talent for as long as I can remember and it seems Cumbie could be a guy who'll get the most out of them.
Congrats, LA Tech. Next year's final season of C-USA as it currently stands just became all the more interesting.
Well LSU fans were upset because they were losing a recruiter. That's a big jump from RB coach to head coach.

Man that would be sweet. Out of everyone we are losing, I hate losing you guys as much as I hate you when we play. I hope we keep an occasional home and home with Southern Miss, North Texas, and maybe Rice.

Now that the dust has settled, I want to first thank Skip Holtz for his service. The 6 straight bowl wins was the best in the nation at the time, and given our bowl-poor history, it is an accomplishment.
But VERY clearly a change was desperately needed. I think Cumbie gives our program a much-needed shot in the arm, and he does bring a new enthusiasm that will energize Tech Football, indeed all of Tech Nation. During his presser he commented several times that Tech sits smack in the middle of a recruiting hotbed, some of the best high school football in the nation is played in Louisiana and Texas, and Tech gets quality recruits (including future NFLers) "just because."
Throw da bomb! Chunk it! Throw it all over the place...down field! From the 1960's Tech has been known as a pass-happy team. It's in our DNA.

BTB reported this morning it's 4.85 million over 5 years. hopefully we have some good buyout language included.
The buyout probably includes helping him pack! I've given up on finding our own Bobby Bowden. Realistically, success for us is getting a great coach that does well and leaves within four years.

Like almost all FBS football programs, having a coach last longer than 5 years is usually a bad thing. If he is doing great, someone is going to pay him top dollar for it. Same issue with soccer. I'm a Rangers FC fan and we just lost Steve Gerrard to Aston Villa who is at best a mid tier EPL team. Rangers have won 55 titles in Scotland but the lowest EPL teams make so much more money than us. The best we can hope for is for Coach Cumbie to tear up the CUSA and we get compensated for his departure.
