RE: "Skyline" campus
The Bluestone area vs East campus demonstrate principles of urban planning pretty well, IMO. The Bluestone area is cozy, charming, walkable, all the good things about "traditional" community planning. East Campus is cold, sterile, wind-swept, exposed, spread out. It's all the bad things about late 20th century planning (and some of those habits carry over into the 21st century).

One reason so many people look back fondly on their college years is that, for many, it's the only time they'll ever live in a place that is walkable.

I spent most of my time on that side of campus while at JMU and it worked perfectly with the classes offered in those buildings. Would be weird to have an arts or literature class in there but feels right for sciences

Fair point.

it is a very good point...still some issues - and low hanging fruit - to make it a better experience and visually connected / consistent to the best part of campus

2-year resident of the skyline area here. I look back quite fondly on my years there. It's not as terrible as you make it seem. I walked to mid-campus and bluestone campus daily. Walking is good for ya too.
