Why were you in Hawaii playing a game on Christmas Eve? Did Eloss get you bowl eligible one year? I thought he had like 0,1, and 2 wins or something like that.

Here from one of our local papers. Billy wanted to coach the CCG, according to him it was "non-negotiable". This committment along with Vegas making us 3 point dogs may do the trick. I don't like how this played out timing wise, but it is what it is.

Doesn't mean it's not a distraction. What are the position coaches doing? Are they calling Florida recruits AND Louisiana recruits? That's got to be a strange dynamic. A week is forever now that the dead period is done.

Oh well if it is a distraction. The alternative is he’s gone and takes the chosen assistants with him, leaving the team short staffed for game prep and leaving the team without its play caller. I’d rather them here and spending their days doing practices and meetings for Saturday and then taking the early mornings and evenings doing whatever they need to do for the Florida move.
Agreed. As painful as this has been for the last few days I’m just glad that it was done when it was done and that CBN insisted on staying for CCG. He certainly didn’t have to do that and it just proves what a stand up guy he is.
But I read this morning in the advocate that he is flying to fl Sunday morning, so I wouldn’t count on him or at least some of the staff for the bowl game.

I guess what I'm trying to say is will he be able to game plan 100% while clearing out his office and all that entails, fielding Florida questions and phone calls from his new employer this week?03-confused

This was December 2011. Fedora was announced as UNC coach the week after we won the CUSACG. Elloss' hiring announcement was held a couple of weeks later while the team was in Hawaii for the bowl. Fedora coached them in the bowl before leaving for UNC. We went 0-12 in 2012 after we were 12-2 in 2011.

He is done doing interviews until after the game. It's better for the players if they know he's leaving rather than speculating if he's going or not.

Billy Napier is the most focused coach you'll ever meet. I'm not worried one iota about distractions.

I wish more coaches were like Napier. Reminds me of a lot of CPJ, very calculating moves on and off the field. The majority of my family are from FL and are Gator fans, so at the behest of ULL - thanks for the gift. I believe Napier will be successful there. As far as the Sun Belt goes, all eyes should be on who they hire next. Don't envy the people replacing those shoes or the people finding that replacement.

We had a choice of playing in Dallas or in Hawaii... Our AD and the Hat thought it'd be nice to play in Hawaii, you know reward the guys.. Parents were furious because they didn't make the trip to Houston because they were wanting to go to the bowl game and got screwed.

EJ took a 12 win team and went 0-12 in one season and we fired him.

Oh, he was announced as hired at the bowl game. I thought you were saying two separate coach leavings the way I read it. I didn't think he got you to a bowl. I knew you were 0-12 in 2012. I thought he did one more year. I guess that was the next coach that struggled a couple years with the damage Ellis had done. Makes sense now. You guys switched a home game with Nebraska to away to cover his buyout as I recall. He was defintely an SEC shill who had no faith in G5 football. Dark times. Especially coming off 2011.

No, Elloss was one and done. Technically, zero and done. That staff basically worked 8-5 each day with little effort and expected to show up and win. It was surreal and we haven’t completely recovered the old Southern Miss swagger. Monken stirred it up but Hopson knocked it back down. Will Hall seems to get what is possible.

Does this mean the Cajuns get a home game with Florida soon?

Not that I know of. That sort of thing has to be written into Billy's contract with UL, and I don't believe it is in the contract.

Those clauses can never formally be enforced anyway because the contract was with the coach, not the new team. When it works out, it's because the new team was willing to make it happen but cannot be forced.

what i've seen, which i think is perfectly enforceable, is they include a discount to the buyout if a home game is included, so its up to the new school.

No, but it does mean UL gets a $3M buyout. I hope they use that loot to bring in a great opponent for the opening of our stadium after the renovation is complete in 2023. 02-13-banana
