Agree. I wasn't enamored with what I saw when I went out there a few years ago.

Ok. You are entitled to your opinions, but I don't believe you'll find too many folks that would choose Norman over LA.

The fact that at least 3 people on this message board have expressed that they would choose Norman over LA has me seriously rethinking my decision to post and read these message boards.

I went there for the UCLA game in 2019 (I think). It was the most depressing place I've ever seen in my life. I'm getting sick just thinking about it.

I understand why someone from the East coast would be all in. I also understand why someone from the Midwest would be way out.

With my credentials I could double my salary, tomorrow, in California. I don't think there is a number high enough to make me go. A company offered me 2.5x to go to Chicago. My wife said, "No, I hate the Cubs fans. Can't do it." Sometimes us Midwesterners just like being in the small town Midwest.

UCLA plays at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena I believe. USC and the Coliseum are downtown LA. Pasadena is like paradise compared to where USC is.

Absolutely. We stayed in downtown, just because. Looking back, I really wish we hadn't. The rose bowl was amazing, but like you mentioned they don't play there. We drove through USC's campus. I'm sure I didn't see half of it, but it was eh. It wouldn't be for me. I'm happy for USC and the PAC though. Really nice hire.

1979 my father had a choice of Birmingham or LA. It was not the fact that my parents saw a couple having sex on the sidewalk in LA it was the fact that NOBODY stopped to gawk. She didn’t want to raise her kids in a place where that type of thing was so common that it was ignored

I'm sorry but in no way, shape or form am I choosing Birmingham Alabama over LA. The downtown area may not be glamour filled but there are more than plenty nice areas to live outside of downtown. I lived in Birmingham and it felt like being in the civil rights era again. City still looks like 1965.

When did you live in Birmingham? It’s nothing like it used to be.

My last visit to Birmingham was great. My last visit to LA was not.

I drove downtown out of LAX and saw blocks of Tent Cities. I went to a Dodgers game and that place and area is pretty run down, at least based on towns I'm familiar with on the East Coast (Florida to Connecticut). Ontario and Fontana weren't bad but you have to make so much money to make it worthwhile to live there that I couldn't ever foresee a situation where I would want to live there.

And, in my short stay of four days, I managed to almost be hit by 6 or 7 motorcycles in stop and go traffic, since they can go between lanes. I also saw a police chase involving a helicopter at a gas station I was stopped at.

California is a beautiful state, the valley is a beautiful area, but the county and city of Los Angeles and it's surrounding areas are not. Anywhere worth living would cost an astronomical amount of money.

Riley doesn't have that problem so if I were him, yeah, I'd go. I can live on a hilltop away from traffic and commoners, go coach football, get a private jet and helicopter to go wherever I want in the valley, don't have to leave to recruit, get more cash in sponsorship and promotions deals, count me in. You'd be a fool not to go if you're Riley.

But if you're me, working in logistics, you'd rather be in NC where you can by a 2,000 to 3,000 sq. ft. Home for 1/12th the price of California in a nicer neighborhood with better schools.

RE: BREAKING NEWS: Lincoln Riley leaves OU for USC
LA is such a crap hole but I do love this move. Lincoln had to get from behind the Stoops shadow. Now he will either turn around one of the most storied programs ever or he will be exposed for only being able to maintain what was handed to him.

I tend to think USC is about to return to their glory days.
