You saying the beat writers and the columnists for the papers here aren't local?

i guess he meant because the CA is owner by Gannett? ...even though the writers live here..daily MEMPHIAN folks live here...idk

Yeah, I see that ignorant take a lot.

"But the paper is PRINTED in Jackson, Tn" as if Giannotto doesn't live here. Or Barnes. Or actually any of the people who write for it.

I think that statement comes from the fact that none of the writers these days are from here, and the CA is managed remotely.
It's mostly factual - not sure how relevant. So not really ignorant.

RE: Brandon Thomas
If Silverfield wants to keep internal team info close to the vest, that's his prerogative. It's one of the decisions the CEO makes. And he's far from the only football coach to do this.

My observation is...that is okay when the team is winning. But it's used against you when the team struggles. So maybe it's not the right approach at a place like Memphis.

Who isn't from here?

You mean "from" like the people had to grow up in Memphis and then take a job at the CA? Like Calkins? Or Wolken?

Obviously Mark G. lives here. So does Barnes. As does Munz.

So do all the little nerds who write tilted sjw stories in the paper: Tanyaa, Hardiman, Burgess, Watts, etc. They are live here and report live.

Heck their editor (who lives here) brought cookies to their office--located in Memphis.

I can't tell if "from here" means "Memphis born" columnists or if he really doesn't think the stories written about Shelby County happenings Tigers/Grizz/city and county politics/crime blotter are written remotely by Gannett employees (in which case is so off base).

Calm down, turbos.
I didn't make the statement, just tried to explain it.
So I might be off base on the intent.
But I have questioned writers who aren't close to the program, because it's a revolving door of "journalists" using Memphis as a stopping point on their career.
Munz, Barnes, the "pretty girl", Khari, Drew Hill, Frank Bonner, etc.
There is something to be said about home grown talent cultivating sources, gaining context, and growing into bigger roles.
Now, it's a USA Today - Memphis edition.
Agree or disagree, fine.
But it's not "ignorant".

Wolken was by far our best beat writer and wasn't local. Stuke was at the CA forever and blah. Jason Smith was homegrown and not very good. Cobb was good. Mark G. was really good as a beat writer.

So whatever.

I think it's whatever you want it to be. Ryan didn't like that. They wrote articles about a party bus causing a COVID outbreak on their team. Those articles of course went national being posted in USA today in Washington Post. For example. It was a bad look on the university. So a lot of people are upset. Ryan doesn't let a lot of stuff out or talk to media but media hurt itself

I think, when you’re a program like Memphis that needs every bit of coverage it can get, it’s small & shortsighted.

Does the team not get coverage still? I'm a member of several boards. I have a Daily Memphian subscription & CA subscription And I feel like the team gets decent coverage.
