I hope. But everyone at ODU is worried.
I guess I would too until the actual invitation. Good news is that every bowl projection site I checked that updated today or yesterday (6), has us going somewhere. One has us playing Miss St on Christmas in the Camelia Bowl. Hoping they all can’t be wrong.
Besides we are a good story for a lower tier bowl.

Man, I hope we find out something soon. Not only would it help for travel plans, but the anxiety of maybe being the only team left out is unbearable. Really thought we’d be in over MT.

Loophole… Heard on the sports radio that some schools in the swac and meac may not be fully funding their share of the 63 scholarships and that the NCAA has a rule that they have to have 90% for an FBS program to count the win towards their bowl eligibility. The caller/ reporter said there are 6 teams who played FCS programs that are questionable right now. Sure hope Hampton is fully funding scholarships

The problem seems to be that it is not possible to leave out one of the 8 MAC teams and ESPN is leaving out Ball State. Despite the article posted earlier, I was informed that they do have 8 spots and not 6. Someone is wrong, ESPN or my well connected source.

The concerns are the teams that played LIU and Howard

I saw two articles on MAC bowl affiliations with two different answers. 8 or 6.

If that’s the case, with MTSU getting in, it would likely be ODU or UNT sitting out. I’m not surprised if CUSA lobbied for MT since we left. Is it possible we would have said “we’ll go anywhere but Bahamas?” and it’s going to bite us?

I confirmed that this is accurate but that it is "unlikely to be enforced in the Covid era." We probably won't know anything for sure until next weekend. I guess a lot of lobbying will be happening. Maybe we can do an online campaign to convince ESPN to get us in?

Apparently the rule doesn't get enforced in the Covid era. So, we can add Covid to the list of reasons we might get screwed.

I am going to trust that ESPN will like our compelling journey to bowl eligibility. After all they need content and we provide more than the average program these days.

CUSA can select teams to 3 bowl games, including the Bahamas. So, they selected the team staying in the league rather than ODU or UNT who are both leaving. They had the power to screw us and they did.

I have a hard time believing that the MAC, a league with 12 teams, would have 8 guaranteed slots, whereas C-USA a league with 14 teams, would only have 7. I get the feeling a MAC team will be the one staying home

Any chance the Belt can help us out?

My not against Coastal? It makes sense on so many levels.
The general deal with the SBC Bowl tie ins is they won't take the team if they would be playing in their own stadium unless there are no other options.
Bowl games want to sell tickets, fill hotel rooms, and show the city they are in that they bring a positive impact to tourism. Myrtle Beach Bowl would take Georgia State before Coastal.
However, since we're going to short a bowl this year, and I think our contract prevents us from shorting Mobile or NOLA, I think we likely short Myrtle Beach this year.
Appreciate the insight. Our fan base would be psyched to play one of our new Sunbelt brothers. But I guess we will have to wait a little longer.

UNT has an equally compelling story. They also won their last 5 games to gain bowl eligibility and beat a ranked team in the last one.

/\ This and a lot of the bowls are closer to them, than us. I think if Myrtle Beach we could travel better there.
