The amount of space dedicated to elevators would make it uneconomical. We've already hit the economic limit around 2000 ft. Anything else is just ego.

If these are ever built they probably will be banks. After all the two largest buildings in most American towns are banks and churches. And of course government buildings but they don’t worry about the cost.
