CONGRATS ON A GREAT SEASON! 04-clap2

Wish it could have ended different and that the Huskies made a deeper run in the Tournament but it’s been great fun following and cheering on this team. I’m proud of what they accomplished this season and look forward to future successes. Happy for Coach Swan on the extension and hope he sticks around and continues to build a winner at NIU.

GO HUSKIES!

DOGS ON THREE!

Still very proud of NIU men's soccer and coaching staff.
Great effort and a great season.
Final score clearly not indicative of the effort. Huskies obviously hurt by absence of captain Jolley and Bañuelos.

With no video, relying on play-by-play which demonstrates NIU's heart.
Down 3-1 at half and cut margin to one which fuels Pitt response for 4-2 lead. Huskies respond with shots on goal that require Pitt keeper to make one save and Pitt defense to make another.
Yes Pitt goes ahead by three, but the next 17 minutes show no shots on goal by Pitt while Huskies whistled offside twice and force two more goalie saves.
With few exceptions, higher seeds prevail by multiple goals so viewing Huskies as being destroyed isn't totally accurate with NIU having a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. Experienced Pitt goalie -- one of four grad students playing for Pitt -- had a confidence boost having began college career at Portland and came off bench to preserve Pilots' 3-0 shutout of NIU back in 2018.
Considering there are 205 Division I men's soccer programs, being one of 48 to make the tourney is pretty good, being one of 16 first-round winners is even better. Being the No. 12 seed playing on your home field like Penn State and trailing 8-0 to Hofstra with 20 minutes remaining qualifies as being destroyed.

I watched, NIU had some moments, but the defensive backline was completely outplayed, the outside backs had no chance against their wings, it was wide open all day...and then a lack of marking in the middle led to plenty of way too easy of chances for Pitt. Our attack seems on par with their talent, but the back-end was not.

Still a great season.
