If we can afford him. LSU is going to offer him close to what CLF makes now to be the highest paid defensive coordinator in the game.

Money talks, but so does the allure of a soon-to-be P5 head coaching job. That's a promotion. Given the choice between a DC and head-coaching gig, I think Freeman would choose the latter, particularly if he were offered near what Fickell is making now.

In the best of all worlds, Fickell says no to ND if offered, and life goes on. Though ND might not want to admit it, there are better opportunities for a head coaching job, as Kelly's exit has just confirmed. Academic constraints there and a reluctance to compensate athletes impose limits which impact competitiveness. Fickell knows that, and he also knows that Ohio State may come calling one of these days.

If Fick leaves and we hire Freeman, he might want to buy Fick's IH Estate, after all they lived with the Fickell's while a new house was being built.

Fick could buy Kelly's place in Granger IN which is much less expensive, but decent if they have add a barn for volleyball and a better pool house.
