Thankful EMU Football
As we recover from the CMU game I would like to say that I am thankful for having all of your posts to read. It helps me through the mourning process after a loss.
I understand the fickleness of a sports fan- and I am guilty as the next guy- but it is humorous to read the difference in tone between a win one week and a loss the next.
We vacillate between fearing getting our coach poached and cleaning house even during the span of a game.
We got some nice wins this year; beating WMU, and on the road at Toledo, and a Homecoming game against Miami. I was also thankful to tailgate with my buddies, and didn't freeze my butt off during MACtion.
I am also enjoying getting to speculate as to which bowl game will select us. Let's not take this for granted, we did not get to do this until about 5 years ago. I feel lucky to have Creighton and think he is on the cusp of getting us over the top.
Now let's get a bowl win and we'll all be happy.

7-5 and a bowl win is pretty close to the EMU football ceiling. Completely happy with the program, just wish the defense was better. I think Neathery needs to go but other than than that, well done Chris Creighton, you are doing EMU proud.

I share your sentiments, 83. Glad to connect here with all the passionate EMU alums like myself.
I like talking and reading about my teams, even if I have to roll my eyes at some posts.

Well said!!! It’s funny if you go back and look at the fans worried Creighton might be poached are the same fans wanting him fired???
I am very happy with a 7-5 record and possibly a bowl win. I will however be critical of the areas I believe our football team is deficient in based on statistics.
Unlike Murphy, Creighton has made changes in an attempt to get EMU better. First he changed from Mcaskin (sp?) to Neathery. He also changed strategy from removing the rugby style punting scheme. I have been very vocal about not having a running game and the inability in stopping the run. Why did CMU have success? They emphasize the running game and have the nation’s leader in rushing yards. I believe EMU has a scheming issue not a personnel problem. As we have highly recruited offensive linemen.
At any rate, we can discuss more during the off season!
Go Eagles!!

Well said everyone. I started following EMU around 5 years ago and it's been fun rooting this team on despite my frustrations at times. I want so bad for this program to get to the top tier and CC can do it with a few changes. Thanks to all you guys for the banter as well. I don't know if it's just me but the other message boards don't seem as busy. Go Eagles.

RE: Thankful EMU Football
100% agree! From where we were when Creighton took over, and really the last billion years, to be making our fourth bowl in five seasons (I don't know if you can count last years craziness) is great! I think we are all a little disappointed and had higher hopes of at least one more win this year, but if you take a step back you have to fairly happy.
The funny thing about that is the one team (2017) that didn't make a bowl was 5-7 and basically a play away in all seven losses from winning and getting to a bowl (three OT losses, went for two to end the Army game, missed the last second hail Mary at Kentucky, last minute pick against Toledo). I think they were actually better than most of our teams that DID make a bowl (keep in mind that team also played Army, @Rutgers, and @Kentucky, so take one out and put in a UMass-type and they are probably 6-6).
Luckey brings up a great point about Creighton making adjustments in the past. I think this is a pivotal offseason. He has gotten us to the (bowl) mountain top, I think we can say we have become a perennial MAC bowl team, recruiting as improved, now it's time to make those adjustments to get us to that next level of a 8-9 win team and playing for the MAC.
Let's hope we can end this year with a bowl win, add some solid recruits/transfers, and start making those tweaks!!

I am very thankful for all of my EMU brethren on this site. I appreciate the diversity of opinions, even in disagreement. You guys (gals?) are awesome!
As for EMU football, I’m going to keep those thoughts to myself this morning.

Sam and Cow, you keep doin' what you are doin'. I'm a Crieghton fan and I need at times to balance my viewpoint and you guys provide me with that. Your posts are ALWAYS logical, whether I agree with them or not, I do indeed truly appreciate them.

I went to 139 straight home game before missing my first one after back surgery. Of those 139 games I only saw 25 wins. So I am very positive about Chris being our head coach. Now knowing what I know about EMU sports. We very rarely will get all the right pieces. Just as with volleyball, women's soccer, deleted softball we just can't recruit everyone we need to fill all the holes. That being said I still have hope that we will.

7 and 5 is,an improvement over 2-4. In both seasons we were competitive in most of our games. I believe CC dodged a bullet in 2020. If we had played the full schedule that year....
Can't argue with those who feel 7 wins, and,a bowl game is our ceiling. I frankly would like to see more at this point. You can't always get what you want but sometimes you get what you need.
