There is a reason why Houston and Cincinnati have been in both basketball and football AAC championships recently and are moving to the Big12. Their schools have a lot invested into their teams.
The next schools other than SMU and Memphis have to do the same to get to that level.
SMU and Memphis are both trending down... especially SMU, I don't see Rhett Lashlee being that much better than Dykes... We'll see.
6-6 one year is not a trend.
esp when your QB is a freshman...
Yes...I thought that kid was pretty damn good against ECU. Id love to have him in Greenville. He is only going to get better and will scare the hell out of every team in the league before he graduates.

Memphis and ECU will run this league in football. Memphis and WSU in basketball.

RE: The standard bearers of the new American?
With all the new investments, I think USF will be in the top half but no school
Is built to last. There has never been a dominant G5 team. It’s all cyclical.
I am excited about a few teams coming in. UTSA and UAB I believe have what it takes to be at the top.
Id suspect that SMU, Memphis, Temple, USF, UTSA and UAB will be at the top more often than the rest… ECU I am still waiting to see. So much potential but just need to get it all clicking again and they can be dangerous.
I don’t expect to see much from the rest for a while. FAU had potential but their budget will become a problem. One bad hire and they will revert… and every school ends up with one.

Difficult to narrow down a top 5 because there many good programs still in the AAC

I wouldn't have said ECU 2 months ago, but quite honestly we could arguably the preseason favorite next year. I doubt we will be, but that doesn't mean that's where the smart $ shouldn't be.
For basketball it will be Memphis and Wichita.

I’d be shocked if we had substantial success in football in the AAC. Basketball on the other hand, as long as we have Andy Kennedy, will be one of the heavy hitters.

I would have to agree on the football side of things. It won’t be that cupcake C-USA schedule anymore. You will be playing some of the best. Wins won’t be as easy as it was beating garbage teams like Marshall, Western Kentucky, USM, etc. good luck to UAB though, they will need it.

Good thing Tulane’s in the conference, we’ve been able to handle them.
