Clearly, all of our players, especially Bates, Duren and Minott have reached their ceiling as D1 players, Penny sucks and we need to make a change. Larry Brown is unproven. We should can him too and try to get someone with better qualifications.

No sir. We should have someone like Larry Brown as our head coach and let Penny learn as an assistant, for a few years.

What's the difference? Seriously. Ever been on a coaching staff? Given the mutual respect these 2 have for each other, there is NO difference.

Just pretend Larry Brown is the HC and Penny is in training. Then you can feel better about things.

If you don't understand the difference between the head coach and assistant, then I don't know what to tell you?

But, what do I know. Other than my father being a coach at the Juco, then later D-1 level, my step dad being a prominent Memphis HS school coach and later D-1 assistant, and my years in a D-1 athletic department...I don't really know much about sports ball thingys.

Is golf a team sport? Does it involve passing? Playing defense?

My dad coached more sports than golf.

But yes, many parallels. And honestly, our issues are more mental, than physical.

The Lion from last year is the best offense we have ran but at least Penny will seek advice from great basketball minds. I predict by March we will be fully meshed as a unit and ranked in the top 3 and I look forward to the F4.

Pastner’s inability to coach on so many levels was astounding.lol

Pastner is far and away the most successful coach we’ve had since Cal. Not even close! Put the crack pipe down!!

He’s not a young whipper snapper anymore. Doc wants him to lay off the bologna and bacon. Go for something more healthy like fish.

That's just plain dumb.

After the Georgia game I stand by my statement. Penny is suspect at this point and I can see him "stepping down" at the end of the year

And I still stand by my statement

This is true. Penny is a hometown hero and legend and deserves a little more grace imo. Penny has some serious red flags developing around his program but we hare going to have to weather the storm awhile longer. Maybe the ship is salvageable. Doubt it, but who knows. He put together a run to finish last season, maybe it wasn't a fluke.

Maybe they had been watching basketball a long time and understand it a little better than you and have more faith.

RE: Can Hardaway like tuna.
Penny was totally unqualified as a coach when hired. Winning state HS championship with Wiseman, Dandridge, Lomax, and the other East kids was no great accomplishment. Any poster on this board could do the same thing. He was hired because of pressure on AD to hire him. He has recruited well but underperformed as a coach. If it was anyone else he would have been shown the door by now. It’s unfortunate that he is a Memphis legend and big supporter of athletic department. I believe he was an ambassador level supporter which is the highest level U of M has. Ultimately he will have to be let go and it will be Finch 2.0. I was very critical of Finch’s coaching but he was head and shoulders better than Penny. His schedule was much more difficult.

He was hired because Tubby was literally killing the program. No one was buying tickets. The idiots paid Tubby a ridiculous amount and couldnt cut bait unless someone was willing to come in and coach for a much reduced price.. ala Penny.

No end in sight to this cluster****. Every coach deserves at least 4 years and I've gladly given Penny that. Unfortunately like I predicted several years ago, it's been a complete disappointment. Penny's getting another 5 years whether we like it or not even though he's done nothing to deserve it.

Maybe he's as clueless off the court as he is on the court, as demonstrated by the Wiseman situation, that he screws up and forces the administration's hand to fire him. Maybe he makes the tournament one year and gets outclassed by a better coach in the first or second round of the NCAA. Exciting times ahead everyone!

Frankly you are doing Finch a disservice. Go check his tourney record.

Understand, that if Penny doesn't return next year for whatever reason; with the transfer portal in place, we will LOSE EVERY PLAYER on the team ... Starting from scratch will make the Tic Price or Tubby years feel like heaven .... and financially, the University can't take the $$$ hit from having that type of program ...

So you would rather have all those great players on the roster and still have Tubby results? The financial hit is the same in both scenarios. The only way out of this is a quick coaching change or Hardaway discovering his favorites suck.
