I'm in SoCal now. Went for dinner in LaJolla, but it was dark so I didn't see it.

Anyway. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Hope the team gets to see the scenery.

I'll be back home before the UC-SD game.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket...le/_/id/28

This is a good team.

This is a good team.

A real oddity. A team with no transfer portal or graduate transfers on their roster. By the way my favs in California are Monterey and San Diego.Didn't care much for Anahiem or S.F.

San Clemente and Dana Point don't have the huge reputations but are great places to stay.

San Clemente is very boutquey. Has a long pier. Dana Point has beautiful yacht clubs.

The original posts seem to have disappeared but I am interested in Miami Ohio staying power. I think you need to add Ohio U Kent St and Toledo into that mix as well.

RE: EMU MBB @UC San Diego
This will be a tough Road Game. I am listing the Sagarin rankings of EMU’s OOC opponents below. It seems so far, EMU clearly can’t hang with the P5. And seems about even with the ~200s teams it played. San Diego seems a bit above that. EMUs near steal of the road game with Indiana was clearly their best game- which might have just been a fluke typical of the first game of the season or might be some reasoning behind it. Curious to how EMU performs against San Diego.

Indiana ( 30 )
Illinois St ( 246 )
Northern Kentucky ( 205 )
Michigan State ( 18 )
Western Illinois ( 194 )
DePaul ( 77 )
San Diego ( 153 )
North wood (NA)
Niagara ( 223 )
Florida International ( 203 )
Valparaiso ( 220 )

Yep - this will be a tough game against a very fundamental team. They are 4-2 and have already beaten UofCalifornia on the road and also won over Loyola Marymount.

I love this tough schedule….hopefully the boys come fired up ready to scratch their way to a victory.

Not high on KSU or Ohio, but we’ll know more when conference play starts.

EMU did outscore Indiana (ranked 30th), 42-31, in the second half. As Noah was on fire shooting three’s (EMU 4-7 on three’s in second-half) and Indiana couldn’t make an open three (Indiana 0-9 on three’s in the second-half).

I believe, even though the games were close scoring-wise, EMU was clearly better than ISU (246), NKY (ranked 204) and WIU (ranked 194).

Without Noah, EMU may well be playing with one arm tied behind it’s back. We’ll know more when Noah returns. EMU’s with Scott and Noah. Form one of the MAC’s strongest backcourts. Hopefully, In up-coming games, we’ll find-out if Luca can be a solid contributor. EMU needs him to be.

Hopefully, Ballard and Yusef can help improve EMU’s front-court which is in need of an upgrade.

Equally important, EMU’s offensive and defensive schemes need to be modified to take advantage of the strengths of EMU’s players.

Hard to say how good EMU can be as lots of balls ste still up in the air.

Last I checked Ohio U was the only MAC team getting votes for the top 25:

https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball...ated-press

https://getsomemaction.com/standings.aspx?path=mbball

You will note DePaul is not getting any votes.

RE: EMU MBB @UC San Diego
EMU must focus on stopping the three ball tonight, as UCSD shoots 40 percent of their fga’s as three’s, and converts them at 40 percent. Must also protect the rim.

In three of EMU’s last four games, opponents have shot three’s extremely well. In each of those games, opponents have scored 8,9, and 9 three’s, in those games.

UCSD’s tallest player in starting lineup is 6’8”.

We got MAC members who are playing teams whom they have say <1% chance of beating.

I looked at WMU. Got beaten like a drum vs. MSU and Iowa.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket.../_/id/2711

And EMU Steve's favorite, Walter Mitty 2021/2 team: CMU.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket.../_/id/2117

Out scored by over 120 points in the last 4 games. Confidence builders???? I say No!!!!!!!

Western Illinois beat Miami of Ohio by 12-points two games ago.

Oakland beat Toledo by 21-points earlier in non-conference play. .

Last night, Ala good LSU team beat Ohio 66-51

No Steve those games do not build confidence in the least. Scheduling more than a couple of those games, in my opinion, is unadvisable.

A couple of such games is preferrable, however, in my opinion. You get paid, get some TV exposure and your players get to experience the Big Time NCAA experience that the MAC hardly assimilates. I also think that WMU losing in E Lansing 90-46 was less embarrassing than 80-63 to SVSU in Kzoo.

Let's take Mo Njie for example. He's a young big guy that needs a ton of development. Playing against Goshen and U-M Dearborn, however, he would have the pure physical ability to dominate the paint. Matched up with Marcus Bingham from MSU provides him with a much needed slap in the face.

Bad example to make your point. Njie going to struggle against any EMU opponent.

Yes, Mo had a long ways to go. Hopefully we see some progress soon or he should be out of the rotation.
