Exclamation Open Thread - CFB - 11/26-27
We have college football on Black Friday. It seems Iowa-Nebraska is a Black Friday tradition many years and this year is no different. Unfortunately it is on BTN. I think BTN reserved it in advanced. I would imagine FOX would have chosen it over Colorado. If FOX hadn't scheduled Texas earlier they would gladly have dumped the Texas game now.

Iowa will win the Big Ten West with a win and a Wisconsin loss but look out for Nebraska. They may be 3-8 but they've played almost everyone tough including Ohio State (26-17 which looks amazing considering OSU beat MSU 56-7 last week). I picked Nebraska to win this game. This is Nebraska's Super Bowl. Eventually Nebraska has to win one of these close games, right?

If Nebraska beats Iowa and Purdue beats Indiana in the "Old Oaken Bucket", Wisconsin-Minnesota "Paul Bunyan's Axe" would be winner take all for the Big Ten West. Wisconsin's on a roll and Minnesota lost at home this year to both Illinois and Bowling Green.

Penn State travels to Michigan State. Penn State is now actually favored? Wow, one game really changes people's minds. Last time I checked Michigan State is still 8-2 and Ohio State has blown out a lot of teams.

Maryland and Rutgers are playing on Saturday for their sixth win and the chance to be bowl eligible. According to my bowl projections, it should be the Pinstripe Bowl. Rutgers' last bowl game was 2014 and Maryland's last was 2016 so even a cold weather bowl game will be a cause for celebration for either program.

Northwestern and my alma mater are playing in the Irrelevant Game of the week.

And oh yeah, there's one other game in the Big Ten, what was it again???

Would you rather see Ohio State-Michigan or this game?

I've always been an Ohio State guy, attended briefly and many family/friends attended. When is was young, for whatever reason, probably the limited games televised, I also loved SMU and Nebraska. A friend attended Nebraska in early '90's and it sealed it for me. I was elated when they joined the conference! I'm passionate about tOSU and the Big Ten West schools, with the exception of Minnesota, I despise them!

I've also had family attend Penn State, yuck, lol! Robert Morris, for basketball, Ohio University for medicine, Bucknell, Ohio Northern and Pitt. I'm sure I'm missing someone?

Useless Big 10 stat of the day:

https://twitter.com/BTNDaveRevsine/statu...2528356355

"Nebraska is the first team in college football history to lose 9 games by single-digits margins in the same season. They went (1-8) in the Big Ten, and their combined scoring margin in those gms was 0. Lost 8 by 49 pts, beat Northwestern by 49 points."

Ohio State just looked like they didn't want to be there. Michigan looked like they were desperate to win. I'll be interested if they drop off next week as they are exhausted from this emotional high.

I thought Ohio State was good enough to win the national championship this year with Clemson out and Alabama likely out. The question is Michigan good enough to win the national championship, are they good enough to beat Georgia? If not, all they did was prevent Ohio State from winning the national championship for the Big Ten. What if Wisconsin or Iowa beats Michigan next week and the Big Ten gets shut out of the Playoff altogether?

This years team was tough to watch, but after a decade of getting blowout in national televised games under Pelini and Riley and Frost, being in every game was nice and there is reason for cautious optimism. We will have a new offensive staff and hopefully a better qb. Time will tell.

I'm not cheering for Michigan, AT ALL! Unlike most, I don't need a team from a conference to win it all in order to feel relevant. Sorry, just can't cheer for Michigan, anybody else from the East? Maybe, depending on who they are playing.

This whole deal with lesser teams beating their chests because they are in the same conference as a National Champion team is absolutely ridiculous!

But be assured, I would never consider Penn State winning it all, for instance, as an achievement of tOSU or UNL.

Understood. Ohio State fans should never cheer for Michigan. I don't know where SEC fandom or conference fandom started. I don't know if Auburn fans really cheer for Alabama. Certainly the Illinois of the Big Ten have to cheer for somebody.

And the Big Ten does have to renegotiate their TV contract soon. It would be good to have a national champion under their belt to take to FOX, ESPN, CBS, etc. It's not going to be easy to convince the networks we deserve SEC money, especially if Georgia walks away with yet another national championship.

I get it and I'd be tickled if a West division team could win a title. I wouldn't bet my house on Georgia, they have now gone 40 years without a title. I obviously think they are the most talented team, but I'm not sure about their mental state down there.

RE: Open Thread - CFB - 11/26-27
2020 was the straw that broke the camel's back and I stopped being a fan of the Big Ten. cubucks summed it up pretty well but I'll reiterate that it is absurd to cheer for a rival to succeed just because they are in the same conference. Do you think Michigan fans are going to bask in the glory of the Big Ten if they win the National Championship? Will they go into The Horseshoe next year and congratulate Ohio State for doing their part in helping the conference bring home the trophy? Do you think we are all going to hang a banner to celebrate our collective achievement? No! Michigan will rub it in each of our faces and get even higher on that horse (but now actually have something recent worth bragging about). They rightly aren't going to share any credit because they are the ones that did it on the field.
